NightHawkIX is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
Specifications

ModelDell Inspiron E1505
ProcessorT2500
Video CardATI Mobility X1400
Display15.4" WSXGA+ LCD
Memory1 GB Ram

nope sry..

although my guess is that the resolution depends on ur video card and driver. therefore, if the driver is compatible with linux distribution, ur resolution on WSXGA+ will b fine.

The E1505/6400 is a nice laptop. Your specs look great. Beware of Vista though.

do u know if the x1400 gpu could run bf2 and possibly bf 2142 in the future? That's my major selling point at the moment.

bf2 yes, but any games yet to come are probably a no-go on the X1400. I am trying to run ghost recon advanced warfighter, and it just dies... plain and simply dies...

read the review, itll run games up to doom 3 standards well, and very hard to say after.

and it will not compare with the x1600. the x1400 is a mediocre card.

I'm pretty sure the resolution of your monitor is dependant on the monitor itself, not the video drivers. If this was the case, then anyone with a WXGA monitor cold download the WSXGA drivers and run that resolution on their monitor.

actually, I'm commpletely sure. The resolution of your monitor is the actual physical number of pixels the monitor can display at max rez, because thats how many pixels the screen has.

This is true. You're physically limited by what the monitor can display. However, drivers can also limit the resolution - if the drivers are only designed to run at 640x480, there's no way for the OS to run a higher resolution than that without different drivers.

This is a problem for Linux users because the ATI drivers for Linux are not particularly good - so there's a good chance that they won't support the 1680x1050 resolution required, even if the monitor itself is perfectly capable of using that.

The plastic on the E1505doesn't bother me, I think it gives it a nice look.

My main gripe, besides the dingleberry commercial crapware installed, is the fact there is no PCMCIA slot.

The express card is nice and cutting edge and all, but it's still too close to the bleeding edge for me. PCMCIA cards are cheaper, and variations abound. Express cards are not typically on the used market yet and while they are the future, the present is still everywhere else except on the right side of this PC.

If you had only one choice of what to put in as a manufacturer, I'd put in the PCI-Express/54 slot as well. No point in supporting old standards if you are designing a new system. If you had space for two slots, I can understand making one of them PCMCIA though...

I doubt you were able to calculate 1M digits of Pi in 15 seconds with your processor.

A Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4 Ghz does that in 20 seconds... I can't imagine how a Core Duo can finish it in 15 seconds.

Do you have a screenshot?
