SAGER 5680 2X DVD Performance
Hi All,
I just received my laptop on 2/6 and all I can say is WOW! It is a hell of a package compared to the Area 51 and for far less $. I was going to buy the AW laptop but I really wanted Gigabit ethernet and it was missing a couple features that I wanted that the Sager had so I went for it and I am impressed. I bought it from www.discountlaptops.com and the experience was great, ordered overnight and I had it the next day. The rep called me immediately letting me know that the 6-1 reader module would arrive in a few days but the laptop would ship asap. Great Cust Serv so far. Anyhow I am rambling (this is my first post here) The only downside so far is that the optical drive performance seems real slow real slow compared to the desktop drives. Is this normal with Laptops?? Should I get an external usb/firewire burner/reader? Portability isn't important to me for this aspect since most of my loading of software will be from home. I also had problems installing Call of Duty, it took me 3 hours to finally get working... it was stating that it could not find default.cfg file and every post on the net said that I was installing to the root folder instead of a directory, NOT... D:\Call of Duty whas the path I was installing to. So as a last resort I copied the entire installation from my desktop pc over the current install and low and behold it worked fine after that. So it looks like the drive doesn't like those 2 discs as everything else reads fine (yet slow.) Thanks. Last edited by SACK; 02-09-2004 at 05:03 AM. |

My only other complaint (AND this is pretty petty all things considered)... the power adapter plugs in the side instead of the rear of the unit. This can be annoying if you actually place it on your lap.. your thighs will constantly place unwanted pressure on the connector.
