flashed bios....

7900GTX

600/700.....5371
650/725.....Crashed

I'm not doing this anymore...I heard some nasty high pitched buzzing noise @ 650/725.

I'm still stable at 600/700 though.

Is it OK to leave it at 600/700 permanently? Or should i clock it down to original speeds.

I had mine for a while at 600\700 and it was fine just put it up to 625\750 for the past few days and doing some heavy gaming to test it and it works perfect and only 81 degrees max temps. You will be fine at 600\700 remember, those clocks are used only in 3D apps otherwise your card idles at 100\200 (battery saving mode) and 2D 200\300 (thoddle back & 2D) so you dont have to worry its running at 600\700 all the times, main thing is keep an eye on your temps, heat is what cause electronics mosts death.
I cant see a 7900GTX's core run at 650 without a volt mod but i have seen other run at 650\725, i dont know how? I ran coolbits and the card says it can handle 640\770, but im not about to try that, I am very impressed at 625\750, acctually i just realized thats almost desktop GTX speeds!!!

Coolbits is a registry file that unlocks some hidden features in nvida drivers and control panel, ie. Overclocking utility. If you install a fresh copy of Nvidia certified drivers, and ever go into your display properties ie. Nvidia contol panel there wont be and overclocking tab visable. Once coolbits is added to the registry it enables overclocking from using nvidia's drivers istead of a 3rd party overclocking software. The kinda cool thing about coolbits is it has a self detecting overclock feature it will test your card and see what the highest overclock your card can achieve automatically, and also has a built in tester so if you want to manually overclock your card, you can use your own numbers and run a test if coolbits accept it then you can get away with adding a couple of extra MHz in like: if coolbits gives you a clock of 587\1188 you can probably get away with putting in 600\1200 in most cases.

Hey everyone, great scores your all getting. I am trying to flash my bios. Anyways Im useing that HP USB key boot prog to make my USB a boot drive, anyways when I select an image (I'm using win 98 boot, ive also tried a DOS 6.22 image) it tells me when I reboot and press F12 I choose boot from USB/storage, then it tells me i either have an Invalid system disk or it will just sit at a blinking cursor. Am I doing something wrong?

Heres exactly what im doing. Start HP prog, hit next, choose my USB drive which is "E". Create new or replace existing config. Then I choose to make it a floppy disk, then choose my .img file which my 98 boot. Hit next, and its done. then i reboot and choose to boot from USB/Storage and it says invalid system disk or it sits at a blinking cursor.

Any ideas?

Usally when you get a lower score with a higher overclock it means ur overdoing it on the card because the same thing happened to me when I had a 7800 vanillia, I overclocked it to 475\1250 and everything seemed fine except i would get 1000 points less from when i had it clocked at 450\1200. My 7900GTX seems to handle the 625\750 fine, I did get a decent increase from 600\700, it leads me to believe i may just have got lucky with this card and just got a good pick of the litter, because according to coolbits it giving me an auto-overclock of around 640\770, now that dosent mean the card will work at top, or if it does it probably would be overdoing it, and might yeild lowere scores, but the main reason is I'm not about to fry my new card, Im happy where it's at.

When i put my card in i flashed it to 600\700 right off the bat, I've never even ran this card at stock speeds, I kept it at those setting for a few days and it was fine so I tried 625\750, I've kept these settings for a while I've tested the hell out of these clocks, ran 3dmark over and over, gamed for hours and so far good!

I did try volt modding on my 7800Vanilla amd my 7900GS, MY 7800GTX is maxed out. And I could see some play left on the 7900GTX for volt modding, its at 1.24 now, It was crossed my mind if anyone would be daring enough to try 1.25-1.3 and try to breach the 650\800 deasktop limit. The only thing id did notice is the 7900GTX is on vid7-1.24 and thats the highest setting on it, as in no other vid#

Well i have got up to 610/725 at the momemnt, started getting memory errors at 735, so i'll leave it at 725 and just carry on with the gpu clocks. But for now this will do, as my previous overclock was just 550/700.
