Get the 5672 x1600 Purell. The heat is really not that bad but I guess that can be very subjective... I didn't spend alot of time on the x1400 before I trade it in for the x1600 to tell you if it ran cooler but I'd think they would be about the same.

My solution to the heat is one of those USB notbook minifans made by HP. I'll take a picture for ya next day or so. It's plugged into the left USB port blowing cool air from the left so the left keyboard/handrest area stays pretty cool and the touchpad is barely lukewarm at all. I even started to unplug it now and then because my hand would get a bit chilly with it on.

But yeah, get the x1600... or if you don't plan on playing games, I think people are saying the x1400 are on sale at CompUSA for $900.

Phil.

Actually, the compusa ones.. those seem to be at regular price now of 900$... According to the site. Remains to be seen tho if the one here has any left...

Got my 5672x1600 in the mail yesterday. ~1250 in 3DMark'06 and ~5700 in 3DMark'03.

So far not noticing any heat issues, even when running 3DMark tests for a while - seems to not be any warmer than any other laptop I've used. Haven't had a chance to check exact temps yet. Of course, I have not tried running real graphic intense games for hours yet...

Gonna format; install XP Pro NTFS; try out these omega drivers. We'll see if these benchmarks go up a little.

Hi guys,

I`m noticing my display is showing wrong colors. I`ve tried to change the color config on display settings but i couldn`t find an nice config.

I`ve also noticed when i run an 3d application (games, etc), my display loses the cnfig and all got brightness than usual.

It might be a problem of Omega Drivers? Should i install the ATI drivers on Acer website?

Thanks

@h1tman

I have an Antec Notebook cooler under my laptop, but I think that it doesn't even get that hot without it. The only downside (heat-wise) is that there's a heat exit on the right of the laptop, so if you're right handed and you have a mouse right next to your laptop your hand tends to get hot hot hot ^^

Got 3082 in 3DMark05 (stock speeds 475/370).Used nhc to undervolt my cpu(10x->1.085 v),Able to overclock my mob x1600 on 5672 to (482core N 405Rram) using ati tray tools, nhc shows the overclocked timings but unable to run 3d mark,The screen gets distorted. Don't know why?
will keep updated.

I've had mine for about a month, works great. All the features for this price range... just awesome. It was from Newegg, it looks like this one was produced in June.

I do notice the lower clock speed on the X1600 though. Reinstalled using XP Pro and the standard drivers from Acer's website
Here's my scores
3DMark06 1156
3DMark05 2510
3DMark03 4587

Reading the thread, I see that this is isn't good for the X1600. I will try the Omega drivers next
Perhaps bhavitavya could share how to overclock it. When I use ATI Tray Tools, I can't change any of the speeds.

I did not read the whole thread, but you guys know this is a 64 bit memory bus on the X1600 right? That is why the scores in synth benchmarks are half what they should be.

No point having 128 video memory if the system RAM is 64 bit dual channel.

No its a 128 bit memory bus (32 x 4).
The low scores could be the result of an underclocked version of the X1600 in the particular laptop model, mostly to avoid heat issues.

It's weird that ATI Tray Tools say 64 bit then. Which is right?
