The acer runs hot because of its design, as there are other laptops with core duo that dont run nearly as hot. also because they choose to put the fans on low to avoid noise.

im afraid i dont know about the Asus A8j, only about the S96J.

The acer works, its only flaw is that is warm, and that is not really a flaw for me. the machine is good and works with everything you put at it. its suprisingly well made for its price point, and as they say, you get what you pay for so if you are looking for another machine, with same specs but cooler, expect higher prices.

LOL, OC, watch for heat...there already pretty warm, and the touchpad is hot, if there was more the only way u could tell is smoke or the sudden melting of the armrestclose to the gpu....if you OC it, get a real decent lapcool, or something to keep air circulation going, just my 2 cents the atiicdxx.ini error while installing drivers i have gotten that everytime, just ignore it, as it doesn't affect your system, or installation.

not really, i mean i'am in North Carolina, and it's humid as hell, from what i know from yuma,az it's a dry heat, and i doubt u will have the laptop in direct sunlight, although you could always just get a 30 dollar lapcool, it's a lil plate that goes under the laptop and has 2 fans that run off the usb port, i assume most core duo laptops are gonna be warm, as there is twice the work to being done, plus the gpu x1600, but indoors mine doesn't get unbearably hot, it's mostly just the touchpad, which i don't hardly use since this lapto can easily use a bluetooth mouse.

well to me there's a difference between warm and 70 C. Also, I'd rather not have to buy an extra device so that my laptop doesn't catch on fire, seems like that's the laptop's job to me.

anyone know if the asus a8jm (the notebook I really want) would be cooler?

What KinzaKracker was getting at though, is that you won't be using it in the 110*F heat. Either way, it should be fine, and if its not, just get a cheap cooler to help.

Has anyone had any luck getting the touchpad to cool?
Using a lapcooler maybe?

Anyway, this laptop is top notch, but the touchpad heating problem really posses an issue for me. When I travel, I wont be able to use this laptop because the touchpad is way tooooooo hot. Any ideas/solutions?
I mean, what is everyone else doing to overcome this problem?

Seems like the 5652, with the 7600 scores way higher than this similar model (only diff I see is the graphics card) in Graphics and normal bench marks. Looks weird IMO since x1600 and 7600 are suppose to be almost the same in performance but I supposedly the 7600 even with both of them at 256 dedicated still is better than the x1600 (according to that review german review).

Anyways does anyone know the availablility of 5652 in america?

I have the 5672 AWMLI
(1.73 GHZ duo, 2 gig ram, X1600)
I ran 3Dmark05 and I got: 2790 points (with standard drivers)

the images aren't always fluid when I play oblivion, any idea what the problem there is? (the default detection gave me high settings or could it be my screen?)

Romenov, same thing happens with mine. There are lots of graphic glitches while playing Oblivion. The solution is to get the omega drivers from omegadrivers.net as replacement for the ATI drivers.

Things are silky smooth now that I uninstalled the ATI drivers and switched to the Omega drivers.

Good luck! =)
