Laptop Not Playing Well..

I've had my 8886 for about a month a half now.. All was working well, till about a week and a half ago. It suddenly started disconnecting and reconneting the MS optical mouse. It would power the mouse right down, and you would hear the chimes like it's connecting, then disconnecting. I updated the drivers, and all seemed to work for the rest of the day, but it's still happening..

I just went to turn my laptop on, and it would not turn on at all. I had just plugged it into the AC, and nothing. I unplugged the AC, since I know it has a full battery, and the same thing. It would not start. I plugged it back into the AC, and it started.

I tested it by shutting it back down and leaving it off for a min, and it did the same thing again..

I'm just wondering if anyone else thinks that this sounds like a hardware problem on the motherboard. I was thinking driver corruption for the USB before, but now that it does not even want to turn on?

Adam, do you think I should call Sager, and see about getting it fixed? If so, do you know the turn around time on them? I'm gonna be completely lost without it.

I would think it would be a faulty mouse or bad contact in the USB port before it was the computer. Try another mouse ina different port first if you can.

What won't turn on, the mouse or the computer?

The computer would not turn on... today it started fine.. but last night, twice it would not turn on at all. I had it plugged into the AC adapter, and I hit the power button, and nothing happened. I unplugged the ac adapter, and hit the power button, and nothing happened still. I tried it like 6 times.. then I plugged the AC back in, and it booted fine. It did it twice.

This morning it booted up on first try of hitting the power button.

The mouse problem, is that while i'm usin the laptop, the mouse will just power down, and I hear the usb device unplugged chimes, then it I will hear the USB device plugged in chimes.. and it will do it over and over. sometimes it will stop, and only do it once, and the mouse light will come back on and work fine.

I have another MS intellimouse optical at home, and I forgot to bring it down to Florida with me. When I get back to connecticut, I'm going to swap out the mice, and see if it does it on my desktop.. if it does, then I know it's a mouse itself.. if not, then I guess I'll have to reformat the laptop again, and see if its a driver issue. After I reformat, if i still have the usb mouse goin on and off, with the mouse from my desktop, then I will have to say it is a hardware problem, and talk to sager to get it fixed.

It just really worried me when the laptop would not turn on at all.

The problem with not turning on may have been a power problem... maybe the power outlet was putting out too much or too little power for some reason? Sometimes surges cause that if the house wiring is wierd. Also, I have had mice do that to me before on laptops (Sager and otherwise) because I didn't install the USB drivers properly after a repair install or windows. Try updating the drivers for ALL USB things in your device manager. Make sure you've got service pack 1 if you have XP, otherwise the USB2 drivers won't be recognized correctly. Best of luck to you!

I ran regular XPpro no service pack for a month, and everything worked awesome. It just started having problems lately.. I'll wait till I get home from Florida, and do a reinstall.. I have service pack one saved as network install, and I'll just burn it to disk. See what happens.

What was weird Beebster, was that it didn't want to turn on when just battery either... I'm gonna keep an eye on it. it seems to be working fine for now.
