Specifications

ModelDell XPS 1210
Processor1.86ghz Yonah Core duo
Video CardnVidia 7400 TC
Display12.1"
Memory1GB of PC-5300 DDR2 667 (upgraded immediately to 2GB of same speed)
Disk Storage60GB 7200rpm 8mb (Seagate Momentus)
Battery9 cell + 6 cell batteries
Weight4.8lbs

I'm currently interested in the m1210 and just configured one on the dell website. I have 3 questions for you gusy.

1. I have the setup at 1.83ghz right now, but would it be worth it to get the 2ghz processor? I'd like it to be able to run bf2, so this might be an issure.

2. Is it better to get 2gigs of ram with dell, or just buy the 1 gig option from then and upgrade from somewhere else?

3. My dad has an inspiron, and when you press 3-4 keys at a time, it makes that annoying beeping sound, and won't perform the selected keys. Does the m1210 do that or not? (I like to fly in bf2 while using the keyboard, and that problem prevents me from flying, so hopefully the m1210 dosnt have the problem )

Thanks in advance

I would say go ahead and get the 2ghz, just from personal experience with various xps setups. You will notice a difference, and every bit you can get for gaming is helpful.

And like the previous poster stated, just get the lowest ram you can and buy some better quality from a third party vendor.

Red face

what kind of fps were you getting in BF2? Please provide gaming benches or perish! i was going to get the inspiron e1705, but the m1210 just seems a lot easier to move around..besides i'd be using an eSATA Express Card for external hard drives . How is the response of the screen during games? Do you notice a lot of ghosting or smearing? How sharp and easy to read is text on your m1210 screen? Please tell me, I'm dying to know!

Mine is suppose to be here thursday..i'll let you know about the buttons if no one answers by then. As for the ram..its usually better to order just the one gig and buy 2 gigs off newegg and ebay the one gig you got from dell.. 1.83 versus 2ghz isn't that big of a difference. The biggest difference you'll notice is going from 1 gig of ran to two..

ok thanks for the info

*edit* so do you think bf2 would run smoothley if you let it run on a somewhat higher graphics setting than the pictures you took on page 2??

and in the pic you took while looking through the scope on page 2, its definately not a circle. So is there a setting in bf2 that you can chose to make it play in a widescreen computer or will the shapes just be distorted?

There's a video on you tube of a guy playing it on high settings. It was real choppy and hard for him to control. But he only had one gig of ram so that might be why. He also has a second video where he just let the game pick the best settings on his system..and everything pretty much was medium settings and ran real smoothly on the one gig of ram...Still even medium settings for that game isn't bad..but im betting if he had 2 gigs of ram he could push a few extra details to high..

i think that was F.E.A.R.. Either way you make a good point. BF2 is a real memory monster, to the 2gb ram would help out.

If I am just a semi frequent gamer is it worth it to spend 130 extra bucks and get the nVidia 7400? I mean I really won't be playing games a whole heck of a lot, and none of them are really graphic intensive. If it goes on sale anytime soon (before the end of the month...) I will most likely get the 7400, but if not, I may just settle for the integrated 950.

govtcheez....thanks for the awesome pics!!! currently have latitude d620 and the screen totally sucks so trying to get it exchange for the m1210. i'm pretty sure i can going through our corp rep. those pics helped me alot in wondering if the screen sucks or at least better than the d620 which it is. m1210 was my other choice when purchased the d620, choice the wrong one. hopefully i can get my new m1210 by end of this month. thanks again for all those pics and review.

Does anyone know if the M1210 has a port replicator and monitor stand? Want the kind of setup that you can do with the Latitude line, but don't see any option for monitor stand nor port replicator. Thanks.
