Just installed new motherboard, and another 7800 Go (Rev 2)
So far (1/2HR) so good as far as the crackling sound goes... Yet to test out a game for more than 20min, and see if I still get overheating issues. Hopefully this will be my last pissed off post about my E1705 ![]()

I really doubt it's the motherboard if the problem only happens in WOW.

Install the Creative Audigy Software. That fixes the problem in BF2, not sure in WoW though. WoW works fine on my lappy either way, but it's worth a shot.

I'd be more inclined to blame Blizzard, honestly. They muck something up with every patch - I noticed my framerates have gone down the tubes since Naxx came out.
Do you run anything like TS or Vent while playing? With software-based sound (AC97, etc), programs like that can wreak havoc on both your graphics and your sound quality. I've never actually noticed sound issues in WoW because I generally keep it disabled. ![]()

Nope, don't run anything else with WoW or CS, and I get the crackling sound when I play either
![]() I was a Dell fan for years, it's a shame something like this is going to change that forever. ![]()

Hrm.. what's in your processes list when you're playing WoW? Does it do the same thing when not in a 3D app (Winamp, Media Player)? Have you tried older/newer/different versions of sound driver/codec? Someone may have already asked, but what version of DirectX are you running?
I'm trying to think of anything that can mess with sound.

i had the same problem after i did a fresh format of my laptop.
i installed both the high def and creative drivers and had the crackling. what i did to solve my problem is i ran dxdiag and in the audio tab i disabled the hardware acceleration. ever since no crackling in any game. give it a try, i didnt even notice a diff in sound and game performance. let me know if it helps |

After buying and installing the Sound Blaster Audigy Advanced MB, the cracking went away on BF2. Theres no cracking in Oblivion either, although there never was in Oblivion.

My experience. M1710 with Audigy = no crackling.
E1704 without Audigy = crackling.
