A question or 2 about the 256 geforce 7900 gs
My old laptop (cl56) just crapped out and is no longer under warrenty and I'm now in the market for a new laptop. The cl56 had a 128 radeon 9700 in it and played most anythign i wanted at an exceptable rate, mainly WOW. Well, i've been looking at buying a new laptop the past few days, and the dell E1705 look very appealing, espcially now that they are running the 35% off, but I'm curious how the 9700 gs will play games. I've seen a few benchmarks, but they are against the 9700 gtx, which of course kicks its ass. My friend has an xps with a 6800 go ultra, how does the 9700 gs compare to that card? better, worse?
will the 9700 gs play things better than than my old laptop? projected specs; Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2400 (1.83GHz/667MHz FSB) LCD Panel 17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™ Memory 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz Video Card 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 7900 GS Hard Drive 100GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive if there are any other laptops out there that compare in the $1500 price range, let me know. Thanks |

First of all, its a 7900gs/gtx, i saw that u said 9700 several times.
But as for a comparison, the 7900gs will obliterate ur old 9700 in every aspect possible. I dont think u can even compare the two, their in totally different categories of performance.

7900gs is the 3rd wait maybe 4th best laptop graphics card avail. first 7900gtx, 7800gtx, x1800. it will play things better than your old laptop. and its marginably faster than a xps gen2 with 6800ultra.

you might want to bump up to the faster memory if you're going to be getting the 667mhz frontside bus with that processor, might as well get the memory to take advantage of it.
