Quick Question: Can 9300 with X300 get upgraded to NVidia Chip like a 7800 GTX

Can a 9300 with a ATI X300 get upgraded to a Nvidia chip. Would I have to replace the motherboard or something.

Make sure you have the right heatsink next to the video card. if you have the wrong one the upgraded card wont fit.

Yes, it can be. You would only have to change the motherboard or something if it had integrated graphics. In other words, as long as it has a GPU to begin with then you can do it.

Just make sure you have the Northbridge in there before you do it (most 9300's do), it would be a pain if you were in the middle of doing it and found out you can't til you order one.

He's (nupe911) talking about the heatsink on the Northbridge chip - make sure it's shaped like a triangle, and has a groove through it where a second heatpipe would sit.

Sorry - there are pictures on this forum (search for northbridge heatsink, or just northbridge).

You should be right - 9300's made up till about April/May last year had the old heatsink, after that they had the one that is in the XPS2 (the one we're talking about).
