XPS1210 Display Won't turn back on after closing lid
I got my xps M1210 I like it a lot. One problem when you close the laptop lid. The video card doesn't tell the monitor to turn on again for some reason. I got the latest drivers from dell. So when you close the lid sometimes and you open it after awhile lets say 10 mins of listening to music with the screen close. The screen doesn't turn on and you can't do 'shit'. I got mine fully loaded with 2 gigs of ram, One interesting thing, put background to black, windows xp on performance settings without the eye candy, and remove desktop icons. You get an extra 45 mins of battery life with 9 cell. But I've ran system restore and done the restore CD same crap. So is this some sort of bug or what? BTW mine shipped in 5 days from order.
Is there any program that can tell the screen to stay on when the lid is closed?

Some users have said to try pressing the Fn + F8 keys to get the screen to come back on. I won't receive my laptop until the end of this week so I haven't been able to try it yet.

T4K that's very odd. I have the same issue as you but it's solved by pressing FN+F8. It's a bug in Dell's outdated driver creation process.
Dell's official drivers always turn the screen off when you close the lid. HOWEVER, if you go to www.laptopvideo2go.com and download a modified driver and the laptop .inf file, you can use newer drivers. These drivers aren't designed for the M1210. All this means is the screen won't turn off when you close the lid! Which is perfect for you! I, however, leave my system on 24/7 so I like my LCD to turn off, which is why I won't use the newer drivers, despite my want for newer ones. This is all rather strange since I can use any newer unofficial drivers on my other XPS 17" and the LCD does turn off. The M1210 definitely uses a different process to turn the LCD off from other Dell laptops. Let us know how that goes!

Well my system is on 24/7 Also, but when I close the lid and open it later BAM I can't get out of that state where the screen turns off. So I have to power down my machine to get it back. So in other words I am going to try the L2go drivers and hope it works.

LOL here's a laugh the nvidia driver could not find any supported hardware!!!
Would it possible to modify the inf? %NVIDIA_G73.DEV_0393.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0393 %NVIDIA_G73.DEV_0394.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0394 %NVIDIA_G73.DEV_039E.1% = nv4_WSApps_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_039E change g73 to g74?

T4K you need to download the separate inf file next to the driver you're downloading and replace the one in the original driver pack with that one.

Going to sound like a noob, but The nv4_disp.ini isn't available on the dell drivers at least the one from the dell site it's either dL_ or hl_ files.

OK I think there's some confusion here!
Download this: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/nvidia/90series/9131.exe Then download this: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/9...f/nv4_disp.inf Put the nv4_disp.inf into the folder made when you extracted 9131.exe Overwrite the file. Run the setup.exe! Voila!

Final outcome it rebooted ran setup.exe by itself blue screened on nv4_mini.dll, Went to safe mode uninstall and when it rebooted it loaded the older drivers it had before. I suggest not to do this until something suitable is avail I'll just deal with the screen issue for now thanks for your help william

Ah yes. I had a similar problem with my XPS Gen. 2. It is a driver issue. I suggest trying a slightly older drive. Don't give up though. As I said, I had the same blue screen with the nv4_mini.dll error. It's not your laptop.
Try a slightly older 8xxx series driver. And again, don't give up!
