Lower temps
I am in Bulgaria now and it is getting very hot in the room I'm working in.Although I have cleaned the fans my 9100 was getting very hot-63 for the gpu and 61 for the cpu on idle or if I'm listening to mp3.Yesterday I decided to remove the CD-ROM and pointed a small fan towards the hole.It is blowing air over the keyboard and under the comp as well. The temps dropped dramaticly-49 gpu and 53 cpu.I do not use the CD drive very often so the only drawback I see is that it is very possible that the fan will clog the inside of my 9100 with dust

That is a bright idea! I kind of hope doing this myself. Since my dvd rom drive works no more. So how big is the fan in scale you are using? Where are you geting the current from? The USB?

In fact I use custom made fan powered externaly by a adaptor with 7different voltage settings and I have made the propeller myself from an old cd.I ran it on 12 volt dc motor but i rarely bump up the voltage.I suppose that you can use any type of fan even usb powered.I used to get 73 degrees for the gpu when playing Counter Strike source but now it never gets over 60 and 63 for the CPU

I recently bought this type of fan with 70mmx70mmx15mm(bigest I could find). It's has bearing's, 3800Rpm, and insanly airflow 33.2cfm for it's size. Makes noise as hell tho 34.5 dBA. I just use an 12V adapter with a switch on/off. And this should fit and work as a charm. The cd-rom hole is around 16-17mm tho. I'll tell you the result when I recive the fan.

I have been doing that for years... especially when I was breaking 3DMark records back in the day... The temps do go down nicely with this trick and the temps tend to run a little lower if you just take the DVD/CD out as it creates a large air passage. If you haven't, I would recommend AS5 for your cpu. It did help me. Do let us know what happens with the fan trick though |

I think it is good idea to use blower type of fan pointet directly to cd/dvd hole. And to wack :no I haven't done the copper mod and I'm little bit reluctant in doing it since I cant find find any replacement parts here in Bulgaria (even if I do they will be very expensive) if something goes wrong.

I didnt mean do a copper mod... that is risky... I just mean take the heatsink off the cpu, clean it with a good solvent and apply AS5 and put it back together...
Not too hard and keeps the cpu temps down a bit which will also help the video card seeing they share the same airflow. |

i just did the AS5 on my cpu, although i think what really helped was cleaning the heat sink for the middle fan. it was all clogged with dusk so virtually no air was getting through. it also feels good knowing your computer is clean and dust-free.
