filipo if you need more reccomendations for 3D cad notebooks and graphical workstations, i think you should list some of sager, hypersonic, and alienware's 17" dtr notebooks. These Clevo D900 based systems can run 256mb mobile quaddro 1400's, and 512mb quaddro 2500's. Their desktop CPU's and multiple hdd's will reduce battery life a lot, but make them quite capable in any workstation environment.
Their workstation offerings are the EX7 and FX7 (Intel and AMD respectively;under workstations, they have the fusion ex7 workstation, but it isnt any different from their standard ex7) both offer the go1400 and go2500. the EX7 can be had with up to a 3.8ghz intel 670, and the FX7 can be had with up to an FX60, or an Opteron 185(workstation equivalent cpu) Max memory in the EX7 is 4gb, while the FX7's is 2gb. There is room for 2 optical drives and 2 hdd's which maybe put into(but dont have to be) a raid 0 array for speed, or a raid 1 array for redundancy. The biggest hdd offered is a 5400rpm 160gb hdd, while the highest capacity 7200rpm drive is the 100gb. If paired, they would make 320gb and 200gb of total space respectively. besides the intel only being able to have 2gb of memory, there really arent any differences from the other to brands offerings. I'd go into further detail, except im not as "well-read" on sager notebooks as i am on alienware's and hypersonic's. All 3 manufacturers have great offerings and any of the 6 shown would make fine workstation pc's.

I am looking for a laptop to use during my down time. I am a driver for a person in the Army and alot of the time i am just waiting in the Van while he is in meetings but I also have my own office at his building. So basically I am looking for a laptop that I can use the battery when I am off post and plug in while im in my office. I want to beable to play games and watch movies....I was lookign at these 2 that you posted and the dell looks pretty cool. Any suggestions? I saw the alienware one but I hear its battery only lasts like 1 hour.

What I want-
1. Somethign I can use pluged in and not plugged in.
2. Watch movies and play high end games.
3. Somethign that isnt gonan be outdated.
4. Somethign I can upgrade if ever needed.
5. Doesent weigh 16 pounds.
6. Money really isnt a problem but I would liek it to be under 4500 if i could.

It seems to me that you'll need battery power and portabilty, so I recommend a 15.4" system, more specifically the Asus S96j (or Z96j if you want the bigger resolution)

1-The S96j should be fine plugged and unplugged
2-The X1600 is powerful enough to play any game you throw at it
3-thats impossible, remember we are talking about computers here
4-On notebooks that's almost impossible.. So instead of upgrading I recommend getting something cheaper and saving for a whole system upgrade. The Asus is not only cheap but its CPU can be easily upgradable to the new more powerful merom, wich should come out in a few weeks
5-The S96j weighs about 6.5 lbs
6- with $4500 you could buy 3 of these notebooks As I said before, its best to save your money and update regularly... The S96j should go for less than $1500, use it for 6-12 months, resell it and get a new laptop.. its the best way to do it these days!

I've been out of contact with the tech world for a few months, and my girlfriend is looking for a lightweight laptop (college). We're thinking maybe the Sony mentioned earlier (V110, I believe). Really, she just needs a word processing/web machine, but I'd like for it to be something that will last for a few years. Essentially what we need is 14.1" or smaller, a modular battery bay (long classes and all that), and for it to be small and light (under 6 lbs if possible).
The reason I'm actually posting instead of doing research on this is that I'm finding nothing with better than WXGA resolution on the display unless I go to 15.4" or larger. Am I overlooking something or do they just not make small laptops with decent displays?

well I dont think there are any notebook under 14.1" with a bigger resolution... but there are quite a few 14 and 14.1 you can get with WSXGA+ and SXGA+, like the Thinkpad T60 or the dell D620

anyway wireless internet or wi-fi is a frequency (a b or g) where you can set up a wireless network to share data and share internet access. If your computer has wi-fi enabled, and you get to a hotspot (a place with wi-fi available) you should be able to surf the net (it might require a password though).

Bluetooth is a different technology but its also for data transfer. Its mostly used for devices that operate at short range from the base, like mouses, cell phones, headsets, etc.

How do you describe the difference between 533 and 667mhz memory? Is it something to pay attention to?

Well faster RAM is always good, but you should also check out the timings... the lower the better!
