Hi all,
I've been wondering whether I am the only one with this issue: I've activated in the power settings menu that when I close the laptop lid the computer goes into standby mode. You can do this by right-clicking on your battery-level icon in the taskbar -> Adjust Power Properties -> Select Advanced Tab and then adjust the setting for "When I close the lid of my portable computer." However, what happens is that when I start shutting the lid, just about 10% before the lid is completely closed it seems that some kind of a sensor is being triggered to go into standby which sometimes registers it and goes into standby almost immediately, sometimes it takes a bit of time (up to 30 seconds) after I've completely shut the lid (you can know that your laptop is in standby once the blue front-left light starts blinking), and sometimes nothing happens at all UNTIL I reopen the lid and then the computer finally goes into standby. Furthermore, once the laptop is in standby when I reopen the lid, the computer should immediately wake up, however what I need to do to wake it up is to open the lid 20% up then pull it perhaps 5% down to trigger the sensor (it seems that the sensor only picks up the "downward" motion of the lid), and only then reopen the lid fully. All this is a bit annoying, even though I am aware of the alternative ways of putting my laptop to standby mode, I would prefer to use this one, especially when such functionality is at my disposal. I did, however, notice that the default eMachines power management settings do not enable this feature, could this be because of its buggy implementation? I would greatly appreciate it if you could check the same and let me know if your laptop behaves similarly. Please try to be as accurate in your response as possible. Thank you very much! Best wishes, Ico |

Well, I tested mine for you... I'd noticed something similar, but I didn't do the Lid Flap to wake it up, I'd not picked up on that...
But mine does exactly the same thing: When I set "when I close the lid..." to 'Standby', it will turn the screen off at an opening space of about 6.5" but not go onto Standby. Standby occurrs at maybe 3" or so. When I open the screen (even fully) it will not recover until I flap the lid. Mine is a model M6805, but it still shows the same behavior 'nStuff. BTW, the delays in going into standby mode can be of different lengths depending on what all XP has to put into cache... if it's busy, it'll finish the task before shutting down. This is a GOOD THING, considering the alternatives! ![]() |

, who ain't so stupid. I found that if the stand by doesn't work the first time simply opening the screen for a few seconds and then closing it again will work. So far. Which is also a good thing...![]() |
