XPS M1210 LCD thread.
XPS M1210 owners. There have been alot of complaints of light leakage, bad viewing angles, washed out colors and flickering with the LCDs used on the M1210. This thread is to help other owners identify what they have and find a solution to the problem.
Reply with your confirmed order date, LCD model number and if you have the AV package or not. Use Powerstrip to identify your LCD. http://entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm Known LCD types. 1. AUO3214 Best 2. Samsung SEC3157 Mid Range 3. Toshiba LCD58E Worse From what I've read. AUO screens are the best, followed by SEC, then worse is LCD58E. Flicker Problem: The Samsung SEC3157 has known issues of producing random bright flashes. This is a known defect that can be fixed by turning off the Powermizer function. Visit the link below for the step by step. If you don't want to disable Powermizer call Dell and they will exchange it for you. Flicker Fix: http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=xps_port_vid&message.id=2234 At eye level, LCD58E colors, brightness and clarity is about par with the 710m. It's only bad when you start to move in any direction. Slightly above eye level LCD58E m1210 vs. AUO 710m ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The LCD in the 710m and m1210 are not interchangeable due to the different inverters used between models. Trust me, I've already tried it. I'll start off: Order Date - 7/15/06 LCD Manufacturer - Toshiba LCD58E No AV Package Current Stats: Will Update Soon AUO3214 without AV - AUO3214 with AV Package - SEC3157 (Samsung) - LCD58E (Toshiba) - Currently your odds are: Will update soon This post is by no means 100% accurate as I will make changes when more information becomes available. Let me know if you see anything that needs to be corrected. Last edited by plastik; 09-18-2006 at 04:53 PM. |

Does anyone know if the "AUO 3214" real model number is "B121EW01" or "B121EW02"?

I'll check what screen I have and post it here tomorrow. It arrives tomorrow! I'm excited. Do they choose at random what systems get what screens? Or is it related to when you order it? I'm hoping I get the best as this is really the first good laptop I've ever bought...

I have no idea but after tweaking my display with Adobe Gamma, my M1210 looks fine.

Adobe Gamma Controls will not do much to fix bad viewing angles, it will only help out with hues and color by adjusting the LCD's gamma levels. LCD583 looks perfect when viewed directly at eye level. Infact I couldn't tell the difference between my 710m and the m1210 but move in either direction you'll get the results seen in the picture above.
Use Powerstrip to identify your LCD. http://entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm
