thanks for the suggestions. theres a couple of monitoring options in audition, some that make the problem worse, or rather just make it echo like crazy, but i still havent found anything to make the ringing stop.

im still thinking it is either somthing with the drivers or the way the computer was made because even when i record with the basic windows sound recorder i get the same results. yea i've had input monitor muted the whole time, and ive tried all the different audio options but none of them seem to make a difference.

im going to keep experimenting with different settings, and maybe even look at the ini to see if i notice anything there. havent seen anyone with an m1710 post after me, curious if they are having the same problem and just dont notice because as i said, when recording mp3 or music with alot going on it is alot less noticable.

next time i'm on i'll post an example so it is more clear what i am talking about

You should try using ASIO4ALL drivers instead, I think you'll get much better results. You can then disable input monitoring on the sigmatel driver and use your software's monitoring instead. I use them with soundforge and I can get the latency down to around 3ms which is fine for monitoring imho

EAX is a component of the creative drivers, not sigmatel's.

garysargent: it's very easy!!
Just look at these lines which depends on the ini file your are looking:
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CD=this
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CE=this
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801CF=this
HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690=this
and try to find yours which is in the audio device'properties (in the tab "Details"). That's it!

Is anyone else getting static when they reboot their laptop from the speakers? It happens from the moment windows activates the sound drivers during the graphical boot loader progress bar all the way to the point where you're at the windows desktop, past the startup sound, and then it just suddenly cuts the static, and audio will work perfectly from within windows without any static whatsoever. But it does the static during startup, and it's a very disconcerting sound. Only happened after applying patched INI file.

I have not done this mod, but I have enabled everything in my registry regarding the volume controls, and I get a some static upon coldboot.
I have:
Volume Control
Wave
SW Wave
CD Player
Subwoofer
Headphones
3D Depth
Aux
Video
Line In
Microphone
Phone Line
PC Speaker

Some are muted, and playback for mp3, etc sounds like crap if they are not muted. But I think the static at startup is Windows muting the ones that are selected.

I fixed the static by reinstalling the default Sigmatel drivers and therefore not getting the Stereo Mix option. It is one of those registry settings. Perhaps the folks here who were so adept at modifying registry could help find a solution to this static.

Ok I found the right inf file (8_1) and edited it in a similar way to those done in this thread. I now have lots more options, and the Stereo Mix is present. Only thing is, stereo mix doesn't work! When selected it just behaves as though the last selected input it still selected. Anyone know what I need to do to fix this?

Psychokitty has a few people on his/her side.
Run regedit and search for "3DDepthEnable".
It'll show a list of features you can enable or disable.
For example, in the list you'll see "EnableAux" with "00 00 00 00" after it.
Double click it and make the last digits "01" (the equvilent of "yes"). There will be an Aux slider on your advanced volume control when you reboot.
Just do a few at a time.

Some of the features will work, and some won't.
DON'T go making stuff up, like "EnableBass" & "EnableTreble". I blue-screened when I did that.

Does anyone else notice the occasional "pop" in music playback with these drivers? I had the Audigy scam installed, noticed the problem, uninstalled them, sound was tinny (and still popped), re-installed them, same problem...

Any thoughts?

Hey, I'm new here guys, and I used the INI provided on post #64 I believe. I use a inspiron 6400, so my soundcard natively uses 92XXM2-5.ini but i just renamed files, and yeah. I'm rockin now The one thing that I would really like to work for my 6400 using these drivers, is the option to disable the noise suppressor on the input... but for some reason it doesn't.

There seems to be some settings for it here.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0005\Settings\filter\rear\presets\_initial\Capture\Input_Noisegate

I dont know what to mess with though.

There is a GateThreshDb key, but the values don't make sense to me (hex: ffffdcd8 dec: 4294958296) ... I really don't think the threshhold is 4294958296db. Is there something i'm missing out on?

Somone please help. You guys rock.

problems

Hi, I did some of this stuff and now I can record a stereo mix, however I lost my sigmatel control board and use of the front buttons on my e1705. Not to mention, when I plug in headphones my speakers don't auto mute. I know some of these issues were mentioned before but I couldn't figure out how to fix them.

It might be important to note that I uninstalled my wdm file.

Alright...

I'm just not understanding this-

Can I do this with my I9200, which uses the Stac97, or not? And what, excactly, do I do?
I've tried to follow what you guys are doing, and I've blue-screened a couple of times, I've completely lost all audio drivers, etc.

I'm not all that much of a dummy, but a step-by-step instruction would be grand.
