Wierd Noise from Power Supply

Ok i have a 9880 and ever since i have had it it has always made a wierd noise from the power supply, kinda like interferance. Little things will trigger it like moving the wheel mouse. But lately i have been getting into home recording with it and i always got bad static on the line, until i unplugged the power supply from the outlet and the input is crystal clear. But as we all know these are not good on batteries for very long. So i was wondering if anyone out there has experienced this or maybe even found a fix. Everyone have a good night!!

Sounds like a bad ground. Not sure what you would have to do fix it though.

interference / noise

Along the same tracks as Lzealot, try plugging your computer into an outlet on a different circuit in the house. Some major appliances, especially older ones, may "transmit" some type of stray electrical charge back through a circuit.

Refrigerators, microwaves, drills, A/C units, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, heaters, etc., may all cause that type of interference. UPS's and surge suppressors may also cause electrical interference if something is wrong with them. So if you plug in via one of those, try using a different one or try plugging directly into the socket on the wall with the suppressor unplugged. Fluorescent, and other types of other-than-incandescent lights may transmit a type of interference without being on the same circuit. Think about fish tanks, overhead lights, and some types of outdoor lights that may use a circuit near the same one that you use for the computer.

If you still have the interference on different circuits, then take it to work and try it there, or visit a friend that lives in a different neighborhood to see if that same noise is present there.

You basically want to rule out anything external before you cave in and buy another power supply.

Exclamation This is common

This strange noise that you hear is common with these power supplies. They are about 220 Watt PS's. When your hard drive runs you'll hear the PS working, same thing when you use your mouse wheel. That is because it's drawing lots of current. As you use your PS more and more that will happen because it is a monster. It's very common and lots of people have that noise. I do, however I'm not sure why your getting interference when recording audio. You might want to try some other technique to try and muffle the interference.

I'm bumping this thread because I've started trying some recording with my notebook while using the webcame with Ustream and I've noticed the same problem. When the power is plugged in, I get terrible interference through my USB audio interface. Being digital, I would've expect it to not be a problem.

Besides the previous posts, any additional tips that may help?
