RAM suggestions for Acer Aspire 5004 WLMi Owners

I have the computer listed above, an Acer Aspire 5004 WLMi, which allows at most 2 GB DDR RAM 2700 compatable in two slots. RAM usually isn't cheap and I am wondering what you have in your Aspire or what any of you would suggest. My laptop has a habit of overheating and turning off often when I do any intensive hard drive activity which I believe could be remedied by having more than the base 1024 MB RAM I have preinstalled factory in my lappy. Any input?

Edit: I missread and it has 1024 mb base.

add one more 512mb pc2700 stick would serve u very well. i personally have not seen any extra performance gain on my system with over 1gb ram.

overheating and turning off cannot be cured just by adding more ram. get ur windows and drivers uptodate, acpi set up, air flow etc ...
if problem persists u should send it back if it is still under warranty

cheers ...

That's what I've always been aware of is that even for big games the RAM needed is only about 1 GB or else you won't notice any more difference beyond that. I hear there is also a way to choose how much in the BIOS of the RAM is used for video?

Beyond that I am not sure even returning the laptop under my still existing warranty will solve the problem of all the heat kicking off. It happens when I try to do massive things like games on the quake 3 high end engine or compile something into another thing or even just transfer massive amounts of files simultaneously. It's supposed to naturally get hot when I do that right?

u already have 1gigo - it is plenty (by me anyway). recommend that u leave it to xp to handle ur pagefile
getting hot during game or high performance apps is normal. why do u think that on desktop, users try to "coll" down their gpu to push the limits? we r kinda stuck with laptop, only thing can do is making sure that plenty of air flow (air cooler pads?) around the laptop.
laprops being delivered with lousy thermal tape, another area to look at it, but usually done after the warranty passes

cheers ...

ur video:
1. u can check the bios for giving more ram to the gpu
2. make sure that u have the latest video driver (&windows)

Thanks that definitely helps. Now I am wondering into making a gaming pc but I want/need to go cheap for the start and build it myself if possible (I know this is off topic partly). What would you recommend for gaming with that or even on a laptop as I would prefer to game on a notebook PC instead if possible? How good are barebone PC's? Getting something nice but upgradable to even higher is a definite plus so I can get something working with the essentials and get better and better as I get more money.

I use this for my laptop:

Is there anyone else who owns this same exact laptop?

I bought the same laptop some time ago. The laptop is heating up in half hour and even the pointing device is hot in 1 hour. is this problem is same with aspire 5004 or mine has a problem???
Also i could not install Bluetooth driver as windows is not finding the driver in the cd the company gave. (Though Linux is detecting the bluetooth device i could not connect my moblie)

The point device does get hot when I set things to automation often and go to work, then come home and open the lid to use the mouse. The Bluetooth dongle I got had issues installing too but I think I've got it working at least somewhat (meaning I used it to see what was in my RAZR instead of using USB but I didn't edit anything). I have Ubuntu as you can see here but I haven't tried to install Bluetooth on that boot yet.

I managed to open it up and clear lots of dust out from the fan sink. There was a huge clump in there that was blocking the flow of air and it seems to have done a lot of good. The fan is certainly quieter now. As for blue tooth I use BlueSoleil for my USB Dongle
