As far as I know, Acer doesn't make their notebooks anymore, it's a manufacture in Taiwan make it for them and I don't remember the name of the company, Acer will probably have to request the BIOS update from the maker and I am sure they will do it since Asus can do it.
I believe Acer's ODM is Wistron

Is there a tool that shows the VGA BIOS? I didn't see it in System Information or Acer's sys information tool, or CPUz. However, I can see the VGA BIOS version when I go into the BIOS settings at startup:

BIOS: v1.3319
VGA BIOS: ATi 009.012.001.013.020345

Would anyone care to share their number from the Asus laptops that have the issue fixed? That would be interesting.

I posted this info on all Acer support sites I know of.

Hi Ken, do you mean that W3J's VGA BIOS is 009.012.001.012 A050504.004? I see that the graininess-free VGA BIOS should be the one with 009 in the last three digits?

BTW, how to check the VGA BIOS version in W3J?

so does the above post imply that any x1600 will be able to use the one fix, or should i wait for one specifically designed for the w3j? i wouldn't want to jump the gun on this in my excitement and accidentally mess up the video bios...

Yes 004 on W3J si the old BIOS with graininess issue and 009 is the graininess-free version for Z96J/S96J.

No, we W3J owners have to wait for W3J's specific BIOS update, since the VGA BIOS is embedded in the system BIOS...

the BIOS 1101 is only for Z96J/S96J, it will not work on any other notebooks.

W2JB is the first model that has graininess-free BIOS and now S96J/Z96J, they are working on W3J and shouldn't be too long.
I received the beta BIOS for W2JB on 09/18/06 and Z96J/S96J on 09/25/06.

Ken, do you think the soon-to-be-released W3J BIOS will also support Merom for W3J? Or is it just addressing the graininess issue?

I wonder how long it will be before there is a bios fix for the A6Ja? I'm assuming that it has the issue being X1600 based although I can't say I've noticed anything. Maybe I'm in for a pleasant image quality surprise

I'll run 3Dmark tonight with new VGA BIOS to see if there is any performance drop but I don't think it will.
I had an older Bios, but I didn't get a new hardware found message. Everything seems to be working fine for me.

After flashing did you go into the bios and hit F10 to save everything? I got tons of hardware found messages after flashing by following Ken's instructions completely. No driver installs needed though.
