Now you guys are picky. Okay, I'll request Asus to change that as well, shuld be much easier for them to fix it than the graininess issue.

I'm having a problem with the new BIOS and I'm wondering if anyone could help me out. I clicked on the link and downloaded the BIOS yesterday night. It downloaded as a mp3 file so I ran it. As you can expect, nothing happened. So I turned off my computer and went to sleep.

Now today, when I turn on my computer, it will load the asus screen, then the windows xp screen, the screen will turn blue (standard xp screen) and then restart itself to the asus screen. I've let it run for about 15 min now and it keeps doing the same thing over and over and over again. I'm not sure what's going on but I can't get into my windows desktop for the life of me. I'm not sure how to fix this problem and ideally, I would not like to reformat my comp since I have alot of files that I need and have not backed them up yet.

Can anyone help me out with this?

Thanks

Yep, I did. I don't know why mine didn't do that. The graininess is fixed, and I'm not getting an error on boot about the bios, so I think it's good.

*shrug*

I did have all the newest drivers I could find...

yeah mine was doing the stupid downloading the mp3 file thing too. it was really frustrating, IE tried to open it with WMP, and firefox tried to open it with quicktime. not sure why it does this, but when you go to save it just right click on the link and click "Save target as", then make sure you change the extension back to .ROM.
as for your problem, i can't see that WMP would have tried to flash the bios , so i would think that it still has the old bios. if you can get into the bios setup i would check the version number, and load the bios defaults.

@ken: hey you said to report any problems

Red face

First time here.

Anyone mind providing a step by step guide to how to download, install, and etc on the new beta bios.
Especially how to install, do I run it in Windows, do I save it in a CD and boot it up before Windows load, what to do?

Please and thank you.

Not to be annoying... but if say I experiance problems with the BIOS. How do I reverse/undo it. I fear that if I update the BIOs, and maybe experiance one problem or somehow find that the Centrino logo annoying , I will have a chance of downgrading it to the current BIOS version I have
W3JAS.207

I don't want to recieve a horror message saying "You currently have a newer BIOS version, installation aborted. " or something like that. I will like to have a feeling that I could go back to .207 whenever I can.

Could anyone show a pic of how the intel logo looks in the w3j.

Thanks.

When do you think ASUS will release the final version of the BIOS , and what happened to version .208 ?

In the ver. 209A, it's not a Centrino logo, just an Intel logo. It's not that annoying, it just shows for a couple of seconds when you power up the notebook computer, actually no problem at all.

Of course you can downgrade the BIOS. Just make sure that you have the .rom file for the 207 version (if you don't, you can download from ASUS' download site), then run "winflash /nodate" from command prompt, or from Start - Run, and select the .rom file for the 207 version.

beta 208 is for support the Merom only not the graininess issue.
