You are browsing within the review sections of our forums. Content within these sections reflect consumer opinions of laptops. Our admins take the best and most objective laptop reviews and index them here to create a distinct selection of quality reviews with averaged overall ratings. Many of these reviews have benchmarks attached to them which allows for users to compare their laptop's performance with others, and ultimately enables us to provide a sortable list which at a glance show the fastest laptops amongst a variety of applications (gaming, video editing, web browsing, etc...). Help us build a better laptop database by submitting your laptop review.

Windows Vista RC1 & Core 2 Duo experience?

I've got a T7400/2GB RAM/100GB 7200rpm 9400, and Windows XP SP2 is like a supersonic jet -- no lag, nothing! I can barely reach a CPU load of 60% when having dozens of windows open, and running CPU intensive programs.

With Vista RC1, my CPU load is at 8-12% idle. When doing some basic stuff like burning a CD and whatnot, CPU load is at 60-70, sometimes 80-90%. Is this how Vista final will run on the Core 2 Duo processor with max specs? The only problem I can see is my memory being 533Mhz and not 667, however, this should not really slow down the system so visibly, compared to XP SP2!

Does anyone have similar experience with Vista running [relatively] OK, but not as smooth and as fast as XP? I have AERO/etc. enabled.

Maybe it's just RC1 and things will be much faster in the final version? Hopefully.

Cheers!

Drivers and OS are still in Beta. Even if it says RC, its still in beta. Until the OS is released, everything will run nonstable/sluggish. Final release will give us an optimized OS and driver support.
