Compaq Presario 2100 PCMCIA Trouble

I have a Compaq Presario 2100 that I have been trying to fix for someone, and need some help.I had a Linksys WPC54G card that I got to work before running the machine into the doorway breaking the card causing it to not light up anymore.I got another one,and in the meantime I took the machine apart to fix the DC power jack. When I got the new card,I couldn't get the machine to recognize it.The lights would not turn on.I took the machine apart thinking that the connector of the PCMCIA caddy was broken,or not making a good connection, and noticed the side of the white connector on the motherboard that faces the video chip looks like it has been melted.I can post a picture if it would help.I wouldn't think the chip would get hot enough to do that being so far away.Unless it is supose to look like that?To me it looks like it is spread too far apart enough to make a connection.I don't think bumping it on the wall would have done that, would it?I would think it would have broke some else too.Maybe it's a software issue?I did install the Windows XP Home SP2 update,as well as others from Microsoft before trying the second card, but the first card didn't work either after hitting the wall.So the updates might not be the problem. Also, the mute button light doesn't work all the time either. When is it supose to light off?Is there a setting for this light? Please let me know.Sorry for the very long post!Any help is greatly appreciated.Thank You very much!

I have a brother in law with a SONY that basically did the same thing, (Wireless card in machine and it got dropped /bumped)

They sent it off to SONY, and SONY sent it back in a box in pieces....saying it needed a motherboard (it had fried some stuff inside it as well, in his case the wires going to the power switch if I remember correctly.)

Hard to tell what is going on with your unit. Something could have back-fed burning something up. I think you're looking at motherboard, but then again hard to tell...

You can try here to get a part number, price on parts, confirm a part number if buying third party:
