Hi everyone,

I have an IBM Thinkpad 600X, its very old. It has a PIII 500mhz CPU and 64MB (yes, I know) of RAM.

I have a problem with the battery. In Windows, it says that the battery is 0% and critical. If I unplug the AC adaptor from the notebook, it dies instantly. In fact, there seems to be no way to run it on battery power at all.

If I take the battery completely out, it will power on as per normal.

When the battery is in, and it is running from the AC power, there is an orange light blinking.

Suffice to say, I think the battery is completely shot.

But the thing is, I want to be completely sure a new battery will fix it, since I can't really justify spending any more money than that on it.

So other than the methods I have already said, is there any way for me to find out if this is definitely the problem?

This is definitely battery is dead. Change a new one.

If you have the chance check the battery in an other laptop. I'v had an old Toshiba wich after the battery felt under 10% couldn't recharge it any more, and it was the laptop because my other Toshiba recharged it without problems.

But probably the battery is dead. If you can't test the battery try a new one from e-bay or something. They usually have pretty good deals on older IBM batterys.
