The LCD is the same 17" widescreen used in the 4760, 4780, apple powerbook, and probably all the other 17" LCDs you've seen.

It comes in slightly taller than the 4780 as you can see in this pic:









Right side with the subwoofer module installed.


Right side with the TV Tuner installed. The unit comes with an adapter you simply plug into the side and you can screw your coax cable into the side for cable TV. The remote control will allow regular TV watching from a distance.

To swap these two modules it requires 2 screws to be removed and replaced and just a simple connector:








One connector is for the TV Tuner, the other for the Subwoofer. Whichever device you're not using, you just tuck away the other connector... or if you're using the 12 Cell battery, just tuck them both away.




Above you see all four modules that go into this bay. The 8 cell battery leaves room for either the TV Tuner or the subwoofer, the larger 12 cell battery take the room of the whole bay.


The cooling system appears to be built for whatever Intel can throw at it. With a slight volume increase over the other Sagers, it move much more air. The palm rest stays much cooler than the 4780 which we've heard a few complaints over.

Some of the guys that took advantage of me keeping the store open late to write this review. Are they helping on the review? Nope, gaming.


Battery testing
Right out of the box after a full charge, we tested DVD playback at a moderate volume and with the 12 cell battery (6600mah) we ran for 1 hour and 32 minutes.
With the 8 cell battery (4800mah) and the subwoofer, the system ran for 1 hour and 10 minutes. This was without power cycling or any special battery saving settings.

Other benchmarking

All settings were out of the box default settings on an 8790 with the 3.4GHZ Northwood processor, 1024MB dual channel DDR RAM, and 60GB 7200rpm hard drive in RAID 0 =).

The video card in the 8790 (ATI 9700 256MB RAM) comes clocked @ 415/280.

The 4780 we compared it to has a 60GB 7200rpm hard drive, ATI 9600PRO Turbo, 1024MB DDR RAM, and a 3.2GHZ Northwood processor.

As for what this system is doing right now, it's running a UT2K4 demo server with a person gaming on it and 5 others remoted into it gaming... I'm going to be #7 in a little bit

Over all I'm very happy with what I see so far and yes it's my system of choice. Where do I expect to hear complaints? Fan noise, weight, and battery life... exactly where you'd expect in a desktop replacement.

People have been questioning how well the 8790 fits in the Targus Deluxe backpack (models TSB312 and TSB315), so here's some pics.

This is my old beater Targus backpack I've personally used for over 1-1/2 years.

Also, after doing some weight measurements on our scale to comare to what it's supposed to weigh to what our scale says...
