yes but my guide also states that it has taken me up to 1 hr or more to get the numlock led's to turn on (and another 30 to flash the card). That's why I recommended the overnight. The cd method works fine for me but some other ppl have said it does not work.

I know you're probably not reading this now but what do you mean by lag? It will take just as long to boot to cd as it will usb, actually the cd does take about 1 min longer. I'm just saying to be on the cautious side to use a bootable usb. Besides, bootable usb is a nice tool. I have various dos executables on mine.

i wil try to use the usb bootable device, but i did an overnight boot up and got no numlock response, so i guess im screwed. Tomorrow the same technician will come and replace the mobo, (i know thats not the problem but i coulndt say it wasnt without saying it was my fault

Huh? You did an overnight boot with no boot media? Or did you have your HD in? The numlock turns on to show the bios has initiated. Once the bios boots a device the numlock typically turns off (say it boots an OS, however, not for flash drives typically). Like I said as a final shot, take all media out in the form of HD, usb storage, cd media, sd, what have you and just put in one flash drive. Leave it overnight and if you still dont have a screen using my nvflash and "nvflash -4 -5 -6 -A -y [romname].rom" then you are just screwed.

7900gs
So I made a working boot usb key (tested in another system) and I turn the laptop on, the backlight does not come on, nor does the numlock ever work, I have left it on two hours now with no result, I am going to turn it off and on and off and on to see if that helps, but if not the new motheboard and video card come from dell tomorrow, so we'll see.

Well, I really don't know what to say.
Although I will mention that its always a good idea to get a feel for a system before you start hacking away at it. |

I wish I was having the same luck. It's going through the finalization process with the double beeps and whatnot, but when I restart the comp I get nothing on screen. Looks like I'll have to pay the $200ish for Dell to fix it. :\
Oh, I found another command line another board, but I wanted to get some opinions before trying it.. it would go... nvflash [romname].rom /py /sn /cd /cp /cc Last edited by Ensui; 06-25-2007 at 04:45 AM. Reason: Wild hair |

Type the exact command you are using in your autoexec here so I can see it Ensui...I hope you are using the Ultra.rom I gave you and not the other one.

nvflash -4 -5 -6 -A -y ultra.rom
My flash drive consists of four files.. ultra.rom nvflash.exe cwsdpmi.exe autoexec.bat After about an hour I get the dual beeps, albeit it's usually so random that I miss whether or not the lock keys cycle or not. After this beep I've let it sit for another hour and restarted via the power button with no results. I've attempted a couple over nighters with nothing too. |

Ok I am doing some work right now but before you give up, I'll be back later today for one more autoexec that can confirm your card status.
