Turion drivers...........?
First of all if this is a stupid question i apologise:
I have a Turion 64 ML-44 in my mALX The latest drivers avail from AMD are ver 1.2.2 if i remember correctly, my hardware manager says i have microsoft ver 5.1.2600.0 installed. is it worth changng from the standard microsoft driver to the AMD driver? any mALX/9700 owners who have done this, what was the improovement on benchies/game performance? i know a lot of you wil just say OMG but every page u search for info on alienware seems to lead back here anyway ;![]() |

That's odd...are you sure you're looking at the right driver for the ML-44. That sounds like a version number for the OS.
If you go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager and scroll down a ways, open up the Processor window, click Drivers...and that should give you the driver version for the CPU. Mine is 1.3.2.0... |

yup - that's the right place...
hmmnnn, I dunno. My knowledge of this stuff is limited to what I learn when I'm troubleshooting issues - could that be some type of number applied by Microsoft if it's recognized this as an approved driver? (never really heard of this, but???). Maybe Hammerhead or one of the tech gurus will drop in shortly to answer this one. I assume everything seems to be working okay. |

yeah i had thought that this could be some type of microsoft indexing for 'foriegn' drivers or something. but i'm not sure. help from a tech guru would be amazing
![]() yes everything is working, not far off breaking 12k 3dmark05 and havent even made any tweaks to the gfx cards yet edit : spelling |

That means you don't have the cpu driver installed, so it's using microsoft's standard drivers to run your system.
You will likely see an improvement with the latest AMD cpu driver for the ML-44. It's driver 1.3.2.16. Here it is. Here is AMD's download page for other utilities and drivers for the turion processor.

Hammerhead to the rescue!!! But it's odd that Tom would get 12K in 3dMark05 using a Windows driver...

![]() (No, that's not me, I just needed a funny "to the rescue" pic and that came up on "the google"...) I'm sure windows XP has several base drivers for intel and AMD processors in the XP install, so it might be an amd driver with a windows label on it. It's likely an earlier base driver version. Installing the latest driver from AMD should make sure all the features are working properly, like powernow... May not make much of a difference at all, but I'd do it. I've installed this turion driver, 1.3.2.16, but it shows as 1.3.2.0 in the device manager... strange... I'd guess the 12k in 3dMark05 is due to it being an mALX with gtx's...

Hmm... Never seen benchmarks of the malx passing 12k... Usually a little above 10k.

Thanks, HH - I forgot that Mr. Hanks has the mALX. Guess all those movie royalties are paying off...
Yeah, when I looked at the driver you referenced, I noticed it says 1.3.2.0. I'll just stay with the one I have for now, since I'm not having any problems. |

heh yeah i bought this pc with some of the cash from Road to Perdition
thanks for that hammerhead....but i have another issue now lol. gfx drivers : latest is 93.71 if i remember? my forceware version is 84.22. when i run the latest forceware install it says 'Setup cannot find any drivers for the hardware on your system, setup will now close" i assume i am trying to install the wrong drivers obviously but from what i can see they should be the right ones also, not quite at 12k yet, the turion driver put me upto 11.5 |

You may be trying to load the regular nVidia drivers which don't work for notebooks without modification. Check out http://www.tweaksrus.com/ for a mobile version. Others have used the drivers from laptopvideo2go (or something similar) - they're mentioned in another thread here on m9700 drivers. I couldn't find 93.71, so used the one from tweaks (and you don't have to modify the .inf file).

I'm pretty sure the AW gpu drivers are working the best for everyone right now. I think I would just stick with those for now.
BTW - I loved you in Joe Vs. The Volcano Mr. Hanks Spectacular acting... I think it would be real boost for your career if you could talk the guys at [Adult Swim] into giving you are recurring roll on Aqua Teen Hunger Force or maybe squidbillies. It's just advice though, so you can take it or leave it... |

willy...I'm getting lower 3DMark scores with the 93.71 driver, but FPS seem to be up...Isaac noted the same thing.
I'd agree it's not worth messing with if people aren't having any issues with their current drivers. Also, the new drivers put a new nVidia Control Panel in. It's okay, but not sure it's better. There is an option to OC in the new Panel...but I haven't tried it. |
