Thumbs up Did anyone try Logitech MX Revolution??

I am thinking of buying a companion for my M1710 (still in transit ). I don't want a gaming mouse though as I will be buying Microsoft's X-Box Wireless controller for windows (due for release in next month sometime).

This mouse seems full of innovations. Have a look at Logitech's site if you haven't seen it yet.

I guess that "Document quick-flip" feature will work amazingly with Vista's Flip 3D as an alternate to Alt+Tab.

What do you guys think?

i've heard a lot of good things about this one.........they are saying the best mouse ever built. I would buy one but I have 2 razors and 2 logitech gaming mice and couldn't justify another one.

i use the vx revolution, the notebook sized version of this mouse. i love it! the only problem that i'm aware of has to do with scrolling in internet explorer. there is a setting that you have to disable in set point in order to make it scroll more than one line at a time. besides that i've been lovin every minute of use with this. i will note that the "wheel" that you see next to your thumb really isnt a wheel. it only scrolls up or down, i have two buttons in place of the "wheel" but they do the same thing. i thougt that intially it was a full scroll wheel, but after seeing one at best buy noticed that it doesnt scroll at all. the one click search button is also very nice! i think best buy has them for like 99 right now with the vx going for around 65. good luck!

Well one is a desktop mouse and the other is a notebook. that having been said, they are comparable in function, but I find the VX better owing to its smaller footprint - does that make sense?

I have both the MX and the VX. I love them both, but I prefer the MX hands-down. I have big hands, so the MX is much more comfortable to me, but keep in mind that the feature set is quite different too. The MX has the document flip wheel on the side, a rechargeable battery, and most importantly, the scroll wheel function is software/driver controlled on the MX, while on the VX it is controlled by a switch on the bottom.

What I mean is, the most stand-out function on this mouse is the completely effortless scrolling ... the scroll wheel literally just slides, and you can start it going and literally have it scroll thousands of rows in Excel without having to touch it again. That said, the wheel behaving in this manner is not always desirable, so the mouse can be set to scroll like a normal wheel mouse as well. With the MX, this is all done in the driver, so it can automatically change modes based on what application you are in (which is fully customizable in the driver). On the VX, however, it is only done using a switch on the bottom. I think it is this difference that really makes the MX stand out.

I just use the VX when I'm on the road because I don't feel like lugging around the larger MX, and I like being able to replace the battery in the field and having the receiver tucked away in the bottom when I'm not using the mouse.

Unfortunately, while most of the functions are natively supported in Vista, Logitech doesn't have a full-fledged driver out for Vista yet, so the automatic mode switching doesn't work yet.

what I mean is do they have the same functionality. Do they have the same buttons, one being smaller or, does the smaller one have less features.

Also is the small one the size of a logitech g5 or is it smaller?

Excellent Mouse with its own problems

OK.... I got this delivered today and tried for whole day... The impressions were like this..

If you have time.. then keep on reading. I will try to give as much details as I can.

First thing first, forget about innovations and features, this thing looks sexy. Logitech has set the mouse design standard so high with this one that it will make other manufacturers job a lil more difficult.

After getting it out of the pack I started using it. OMG.. this thing is heavier than the normal mice. I realized that my hand was avoiding the mouse and using keyboard more. Anyways, lets do the hard work. By this time, I already checked amazon return policies once.

Even after doing extra hardwork, I found that all the features mentioned on that site and the box doesn't work. This means I have to install some software. They call it SetPoint. I personally dont prefer any application just to get the mouse work. My machine is already overloaded and now this. But once I downloaded and installed the application (also included in companion CD) I got everything worked.

Hyper-fast scrolling
This is really hyper fast. Actually the scrolling works in two modes. One the normal scrolling where we feel breaks between scrolling and other one is this hyper fast scrolling. This scrolls like a wheel. Actually you can just start it with pressure and leave it to keep scrolling. I never scrolled 20000 line of codes top to bottom using scroll wheel earlier. And now, its just one scroll and done.

SmartShift™ technology
I doubt if its really smart. This is actually some logic (which I dont think devs at Logitech implemented it correctly) to switch between normal and hyper scrolling. It hardly wark the way I want it. But hey you can always switch manually by pressing the scroll wheel.

Rest all features are standard for high end mice like this which has multiple configurable buttons.

Finally, afte using it for a day I feel more comfortable with this. I mean this is the same thing happened when I bought Shure noice cancelling ear buds ( multiple models range from $100 to $500.. yes its $500) and felt pain in my ear canal before I got used to them. I think I will enjoy this mouse in long run. It fits so well in your hand that you hate using others after this. Its just matter of some time.

I hope this info can help you guys on deciding for this nice device. Should you want some specific info, shoot a Q in post.

Enjoy!

Thought I would let you know that the XBox controller mentioned in the first post for windows is already out. I saw it last week at either compusa or bestbuy.
