After doing the clean install, screen only turns off if external monitor is attached. If nothing is attached, LCD will just stay on with the lid closed.

Well maybe its related to the card. Can anyone else with the 7800gtx get the LCD to shut off with the stock dell 92.77 driver?

If its not specific to the 7800gtx then tony you can reverse engineer your modded drivers to have both the old control panel and the LCD off function.

All (all!) you have to do is find out which parts of the 84.69 drivers are kept over the 92.77 install. I didnt use driver cleanerpro.

There should be a good market for tweaksrus mods+old control panel+LCD shut off...

i have a 7900GS and i used the mobileforce modded drivers 95 and 97.02 drivers and my lcd shuts off when the lid is almost closed no matter what.

Yeah, but you're installing custom tweaked drivers, not stock drivers.

At least for me, even the stock, untouched Dell 92.77 drivers don't turn off the LCD. It's not the tweaks.

It's something Dell's doing to the drivers... I've been doing everything I can do to try and figure out the "LCD Not Turning Off" issue, and am absolutely stumped. I've yet to isolate what fixes the "problem". It's irritating the living hell outta me .

My screen also doesn't turn off with Dells 92.77. The registry-patch (lidbehavior from 0x11 -> 0x10) turns the screen off when closing the lid but there is no chance getting it back on. Fn+F8 does not do it...

The 92.77 driver has all of the same files as the Dell stock driver, albeit the 92.77 driver has two new files which I think are of little importance to the lid issue. The file sizes of each file does change between drivers, and I believe it is a single file with which the lid switch command is embedded into. As such, I had planned on testing the 92.77 driver with individual files from the 84.69's to see if any of them would enable the switch. They would have to be tried one at a time to narrow down which one is the culprit. I have scoured the registry ENDLESS times with an excellent document comparison program and have not been able to isolate a reg key that could be the issue. As such, like I said, the problem lies in the individual files of the driver. Tony, I don't know what all you have tried, but if you want to try what I suggested it may open new doors here. I would do it, but I don't have the time on my hands (may be able to after the holidays...) My belief is that one of the driver files is strictly a power management file, containing calls for Powermizer, LCD switch, and the APM features of the card. If we can isolate the power management file, we may be able to mod the 84.69's PM file to work with the newer drivers (perhaps all of them?)

On my m170, the Dell official 92.77 turn off the LCD when it is about 1/4" from fully closed. This is with no external monitor attached and on AC power.

A05 BIOS, all updates from Dell installed. Prior video driver was Dell Official 84.69, no driver cleaner, just installed the 92.77's over the 84.69. No problems or improvements noted on my 7800GTX.

On my m1210, the screen stays on even when fully shut.

As a side benefit on my m1210, the drivers seem to have lowered the temps somewhat. I ran ATI Tool for 30 mins and did not get above 82C and the fans never kicked into high. Before the temp would get up to around 85-90 with fans on high.

Temps dropping could be due to it being December, but I am happy. Ignorance is bliss

It's not specific to the cards, I do know that, but it is more of a problem with the GeForce Go 7-Series more than it is with the 6-Series.

When I had my old 9300 and it's GeForce Go 6800, I didn't have the "LCD Problem" that others with 7-Series cards were having, so it was much, much harder to develop a solution to incorporate into the MobileForce drivers as it is now with my 9400 and it's GeForce Go 7900 GS, which exhibits the "LCD Problems" that everyone else has.

I may be able to give your idea a try Krayziepop, but it will take time, so bear with me.

However, there is also an important thing that I must bring up... The MobileForce drivers aren't Dell-Only drivers, so I have to worry about the possibility of isolating the single (or however many there are) file that fixes the "LCD Issue" having ill-effects on laptops from other manufacturers.

As for the Classic Control Panel, NVIDIA is physically removing it from their newer drivers (the upcoming MobileForce 97.44 does NOT have the Classic Control Panel). That being said, it may be more than difficult to try to but it back IN the driver once it's been removed, if it can even be done at all. With the Dell ForceWare 92.77 driver, it could be done by installing that driver over the top of the previous Dell ForceWare 84.69, but that was because the Classic Control Panel was there, just not functional. There isn't even an OPTION for the Classic Control Panel with the 97.44 driver.
