More like, released ONLY for the 7950 GTX in the XPS. Users of the 7800 and 7900gs are still out of luck.

Actually, considering that the Inspiron 9400 that shipped with the 7800 is still stuck on version v78.59, I don't have much hope that Dell will *EVER* update the drivers for the 7900gs past v84.69.

I'm using nVidia's official GeForce Go drivers right now anyhow. I'm going to hope that they do update them.

Am I the only one who finds it absolutely insane that nVidia's ForceWare, which is supposed to be a *UNIVERSAL DRIVER* for all their videocards, is now splintered into a confusing array of single-videocard releases?

It's not just Dell that's to blame. The official nVidia GeForce Go 7xxx series drivers *WILL NOT* install on the GeForce Go 7800, only the 7900gs and above. The thing is, the difference between the two cards is so incredibly minor, and the desktop drivers will support everything with an INF patch, this is getting insane.

So, to conclude my rant, perhaps the desktop driver situation is much improved from 10 years ago before Catalyst and Detonator/ForceWare, but for those of us using notebooks, the driver situation is just as bad (fractured) as desktops were before they got unified drivers.

Fixes and Enhancements
Initial release for Blu-Ray support.

That isn't much, but I am going to give it a try on my 7400/7800GTX.

I like the 84 series drivers better than the 9x.xx with my M170/7800gtx. I loaded an .inf'ed 9 series driver and got 50 less in 3dmark than with the latest 8 series. I like the old control panel better too. A little note...the Dell 84.69 apparently is the same as the Nvidia 84.63, but with some of the control panel functions turned off (same 3dmarks). Just compare the .inf's from these two, figure out the line that specifies the Dell chipset name (its towards the bottom), and load the full 84.63 version, enjoy.

You can get the screen to shut off every time when the lid closes if you enable hibernate in power options and select hibernate when the lid closes in advanced power options. Open the lid and hit the power button and you are back up!

Hmmm sound like you have either an OS/App problem or a bad read switch. I have not had any problems with the screen turning off when I close the lid..

No, its definately a driver issue everybody has. The only Dell driver that will turn off the LCD properly when the lid is closed, is the release driver (84.69 if I am not mistaken...) Every other driver out there will leave the screen on, as if to ignore the switch. Of course you can still set your power settings to shut the screen off after X amount of minutes, but thats not the functionality I am in need of...

My LCD turns off when I lose the lid with these drivers. However, I have an external monitor plugged in. The LCD will turn off automatically.

Hmmm, I just installed these drivers and did the LCD check and my screen turns off right before it clicks into the closed locked position. They seem to work for me. I was having the issues on previous drivers but it appears corrected. And no I dont have hibernate or suspend mode activated. I have a XPS2 with 7800GTX video card
