Nice work Juan! Hey, how exactly did you find what bit you had to modify in order to unlock the bios?

Well, I figured out what he did. He went to the performance table entries and changed a value... from 2 to A. But that's incredibly risky to find by accident. I want to know the method behind the maddness :P

That would be the next step... to make a M170 recognize the 7900GTX. He'd either have to make the 7900GTX look like a 7800GTX so the stock laptop bios will accept it, or he has to hack the laptop bios which is a whole different kettle of fish.

My bet would be on changing certain values in the 7900GTX bios that would perhaps mimmick a 7800GTX while retaining the 7900GTX bios's functionality.

I would DEFINATELY be crazy enough to start soldering on the mobo to get the 7900GTX working

I just flashed to this bios, and noticed that i'm once again hitting around 93c after gaming, which my max was 85c using krazies .rom. well I thought i was only hitting 85, but forgot to reset the offset in i8kfangui, and ati reports 52 at idle. I'm not too happy with that.

I'm using the 92.77 drivers and cant find an nvidia temp display.

I'll have to look into the temps more, with the downgrade from 1.24 to 1v at 3d, i thought i wouldn't hit those high temperatures. i'll also have to check into the dvd issue. If anyone has any ideas get back to me

Mine idles around 55 (although nearer 58 in this Aussie NSW heat)...Im thinking I might flash back to the original ROM and see what happens to temps...

As I said I cant use this newer ROM as there is no way in Vista to overclock....nVidia drivers are still poor ATM...lack of options...

Doesn't it idle at high temps because it stays at performance 3D?
I ususually set it manually to Maximum power saving if I don't game and that works just fine to keep temps low.

I don't know guys, I just modded his GTX bios off of the disc to run at 1.05V again and all is well. Temps are even a little better than before, now that I think about it. I am gonna tear the GS out of the case here in a little while and do a little bit of dremel machine work on the contact surface to see if I can get her a little bit cooler

just use Nvidia control panel stunkinasquare3, just go to desktop and of course right click and then go to Nvid display: then laptop display, then if you have coolbits installed go to the tab for clock speeds and change them up as you would like, those are the clock speeds your computer will run at when on AC and being stressed.

I can't help you when it comes to the term latency in reference to graphics cards.

Anyway, also just an update....but my video card has been idling incredibly low recently, not that I'm complaining, but at this point its dropped about 10-15C now that my computer IS overclocked. Right now, without offset its at 39C and before it was down at 37C, and also just so you know I am on AC power as well.

leeer73 has a few people on his/her side.
I need a little HELP! I installed ATITools, then flashed my card with the appropriate rom, then installed coolbits (it is just a regisrty entry?). Now I can change my clocks via atitools but I cannot keep them after a reboot. In my NV display, I do not have a tab for my clock speed. Is coolbits supposed to just be that registry entry or is there a program that I'm not downloading? Any help would be great@! Thanks!

Yes, check that or else it won't stay at those clocks permanently. Also, if you want some advice on what to set the clocks on after you flash to the new GPU bios, use the *auto detect optimal values* button on the clock speeds page, this way it'll find the best choice for you then ATiTool it to test for stability

Also, before trying this make sure you've flash to the suitable .ROM I assume you've already completed this.
