I was successfully able to bring back a dead 7900GS today. Just so you guys know, JMOD's image replaces the '-' near the number keys with a '`', so you have to use the '-' on the numberpad 'fn+;' for it to work, else it types 'nvflash `4 `5 `6 Romname.rom'. Took me another computer running the CD to figure this out

Have you tried cleaning your fans U(inside the notebook - you have to take it apart to clean the fans) yet?
I was experiencing the same problem. I could flash any bios I wanted or overclock as much as the cooling would allow me to, the performance just kept getting worse and even worse.

But after cleaning the fans, the performance went up to the old levels and the whole laptop stays much cooler (about 10°C).

If I were you, this would definitelly be my first option.
You can get a service manual that describes how to take your laptop apart at the laptop vendor.
(I can't be held responsible for any damage!)

I have an XPS M170, Geforce go 6800 Ultra, I can overclock it without any BIOS modifying, all I did was download Riva Tuner 2.06, and the 167 laptopvideotogo drivers, I have it overclocked to 521/1228 3dmark05 score 5800-5900...not a single issue. I have windows Vista...is this normal? I see others messing with the BIOS and stuff??

It used to be that you had to flash another "unlocked" rom to the BIOS. Now, its all dependent on the driver. Take a read here.

Different drivers maybe? I am not sure what to really tell you. I'd say your score could fluctuate 350 odd points in 3dmarks tests depending on a given scenario. Really its not much to make a fuss about though. Its not like its an actual game or anything.

Hey y'all, I have an interesting issue with drivers. I heard theres lots of good reasons to including apparently a 15% performance boost on dual cores if I get the 90 drivers or above. Problem is, I have the 84.69 drivers still on here after a year and want to one, keep all the settings, and two, the bigger problem. I uninstalled the driver and rebooted, installed the new drivers from dell, but upon going back in, windows first tried to install its own drivers, and after the drivers were installed I couldn't get to nvidia's control panel at all. not one bit and I use it alot. I'm pretty sure this shouldn't have happened, any ideas would be helpful if you've got time.

Btw my 7950go gtx's latest stable overclock is 663/787

I've been using this for about a year but had to turn down the clock because my laptop overheats. I applied AS5 again, and cleaned out the fans, but they seem to annoy me more than ever.

I can't figure this out. I know about the 169 and above drivers not allowing an unlocked card to be overclocked BUT:

I am running Rev0 ISO modded to GTX (500/600 stock) with one heatpipe. I am running 167.55 drivers (Dell version according to LV2G).

Whenever I use nTune or RivaTuner, they will not overclock the card. I can change the core/mem, but when I hit apply, it goes back to 500/600.

I have removed, rebooted, used DriverCleaner, rebooted and then installed on Vista x64...but for the life of me I can now no longer overclock and have the changes stick...

Ideas?

You need an unlocked card, or run a later version of the drivers...

Well, I personally have not been able to overlock any drivers after 169.04. If I use drivers after that version, I have the same problem as you: once I click OK, the values reset back to stock values.

I have not been able to find a solution for this.

And yes, like the poster above me said: you do need to unlock your video card bios 1st.
