Trouble Installing the Sigmatel C-Major driver/software package.
Has anyone been experiencing this?
I have the Sigmatel card listed in my hardware, and it seems to be working fine. But there is no Sigmatel software installed in my Program Files. When I tried to install the driver/software from the Dell downloads site, I get a very strange error that Google doesn't have much info on. The error states: An error (5009: 0x8002802b) has occurred while running this setup. Please make sure you have finished any previous setup and closed other applications. If the error still occurs, please contact your vendor: SigmaTel (http://www.SigmaTel.com) I have no idea if I'm missing something I should have or not.

So, you don't have SigmaTel Audio in your Add or Remove Programs?

C-Major Audio is listed, but no Sigmatel. Sigmatel is also not in Program Files, or Settings. If I try to uninstall the C-Major Audio I get the same error message.

Have you tried uninstalling the C-Major Audio program in safe mode?
Also, just did a Google search and found this: "Recently encountered similiar problem with same error number and failure address at one of our test computers. It seems like some of the runtime files under C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime seem to be from 7.x runtime (IsProbe.tlb, Ikernel.rgs,objectps.dll) while 10.x runtime was also present. But later when a installation created with 10.x is run, installshield thinks because 10.x engine files already exist it does not update these 3 files that are from 7.x. If we delete the files and folders under Runtime, then installation seems to run fine from next time onwards. Maybe these 3 files should not be in a common location." Try deleting everything inside the C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime and try the install again. |

You're welcome. So, I'm guessing that worked.

Yes it did.
I made a folder & dumped the contents you said to delete into it, just in case. After reinstalling the Sigmatel driver package from Dell, many of the files in InstallSheild were recreated, so I dumped the temporary folder & contents.

Glad to hear. At least now I know what to do if I have a problem with InstallShield in the future.
