I am waiting until you guys have worked the bugs out or Dell allows us a single point of contact on this issue. I want a replacement adapter to prevent the AC stray voltage damage, yet don't have the time to be sent to help-line hell...

Sorry for riding on your backs on this one, but there is just not enough time in the day to try and explain this and play support-rep-roullette waiting for a fix.

I eagerly await an easy to follow response - and THANKS to everyone who is on the front lines making this happen.

Damn, you poor bastards...

Dell Asia Pacific (Asia / Australia / New Zealand) are absolutely fantastic.

All I did was send one tech support email. The next day I received a phone call FROM THEM explaining that THEY were going to send a 3-pin AC adapter to give the laptop better grounding (so they obviously knew what I was talking about).

The NEXT DAY I received the adapter, and all was fixed.

So from the sending of the email until I got the new adapter was 3 days....thanks Dell Asia Pacific!

Nothing that we haven't discussed here already. I have had many problems with my system in the past....

After seeing this thread, i tested my e1705 for stray volts with some negative, but also inconclusive results. Just to be sure, I spoke with a dell rep today via chat and they promised a 100$ coupon to purchase the dell 3 prong adapter. I'll see how it pans out.

As an update, The manager I have been speaking with is supposed to call me first thing tomorrow. So hopefully we will have a definitive solution at that point.

First thing tomorrow meaning wednesday? Or Tuesday? Hmm, just got back from tech, and they're going to send out a new laptop, in hopes that it won't have the stray voltage. So, hopefully it will be shipped out with the grounding adapter. If not, i'll have to ebay it up. Hey Viriiguy, what's the part number on the adapter that you got??? I can't find it on dell, and they can't find it either?

One other thing to note... The adapters that ship with the M1710's should be 130Watt adapters rather than the 90W E1705 adapter. If you are getting 90W 3 prong adapters, then they are from the old i9300 lineup.

I tested all my screws for several times (including the screws around the intel pro wireless card) and I had a voltage (AC) of 0.5. That's pretty normal.

I have a Inspiron 9400 bought in june 2006.

Tomorrow for me will be Wed. As I have stated befor ein the thread, Dell has not sent me ANY grounded adapters yet. They have replaced 2 laptops for this issue. Which of coarse did nothing as the issue was the same. So I do not have a part number off hand for you.

Gosh I can see this on big headlines now at engadget or gizmodo " User gets tazered by notebook lawsuit ensues " followed by a mass recall. Whatever it takes to win I suppose.
