got all this for a little over 2 grand, do you think it will run company of hereos battlefield series and call of duty 2 ok with 1 gig of ram for a while, or should i buy some sticks from new egg asap and throw them in there?
also.. this is my first laptop, how hard is it to upgrade hardware on these machines? graphic cards, hard drive etc.... as easy as taking the bottom off and popping new in?

any information would be appreciated.

Thanks
Drew

P.S i ordered the computer for 2303 day after the price dropped i called them up and they credited me all of the price drop, so i upgraded to 100 gig hd instead of the 80 and still saved 78 bux, they told me they would honor price drops untill the system ships, after that they would nt refund anything.

Another thing, i have read numerous times at how bad alienware support is, i would just like the say they have always been curtious to me and helped me fully, yes once or twice their technition didnt know the answer, but if hes like me, i have to be there with the computer to do anything, its a hard job give them a break. As long as im curtious to them and dont get impatient they do the same back, i will complain that some of them dont know how to speak fluent english, which gets on my nerves a little but its still acceptable.

I'm not really sure. You could probably play it with the settings at medium, but I dunno about maxing them out.

I've also had some pretty good luck with tech support so far. I've gotten answers to all my questions and everything.

that setup should be fine for most games i dont play company of heroes and i havent try it on an m5790 so im note sure how it will run, COD2 will run at full settings as for BF series anything prior BF2 will run at full settings fine, BF 2142 will also run at full settings but you need to let the card "warm up" once you enter the game for about 30secs to get smoth FPS

I'm not an expert by all means, but I've been looking around, and have got some responses here, and I think 2GB of RAM would definitely be beneficial. Probably worth ordering off of newegg or some other site. The 2 512's could probably be sold off of eBay, and you might even come close to breaking even. Just my two cents.

Yeah 2 GB of RAM is a must if you wanna play games at max settings. Just get the 1 GB and order another 1 GB stick off of www.newegg.com

you can't just buy another 1GB stick off on newegg because the m5790 only supports two slots and he already has 2 512's because Alienware doesn't offer 1 1GB so he's gonna have to buy a 2Gb set which sucks but it's definitely worth it. But as mentioned earlier, definitely sell the 2 512 on eBay if you can, it'll help you get some if not all your money back

Well, technically you could order it and have a 1GB and a 512'er in at the same time, but if you're gonna upgrade, just shell out the cash, it's honestly not THAT expensive, from the research I've done.

actually the m5790 supports only Dual Channel which would mean that he would need two identical RAM modules, in which a 1GB is not the same as a 512MB so that wouldn't work

Yes a 1GB and a 512MB will work but just not in dual channel mode. The performance with dual channel is only 5-10% nothing major anyways at least not in laptops.
