888X new keboard firmware

This is supposed to take care of any chances of the system overheating problems with stanby a couple of people had...

If you have the later 8887 system shipped with HT enabled you probably already have this update, but for those with the 8886/8887 this may be a solution to any chance of the overheating when going to standby.

Please download the file from HERE.

Once downloaded to your desktop

Insert a floppy disk and create a boot disk by clicking my computer and right clicking on the A: drive and going to "Format":

Once you've created your startup disk, double click and execute your H8-23.exe file you downloaded:

Now, reboot the computer off the floppy drive. If your computer is booting to Windows, you need to change the boot sequence. To do this, during boot up, press CTRL/ALT/S and jump into the bios, go to the startup/boot sequence tab and select the first boot device to be the floppy drive by using Tab, the arrow keys, and the space bar:

After you've changed the boot sequence (if you needed to), save your settings and restart:

You will boot up to an A: prompt
At this point, you type "h8.bat" This will execute the batch file:

This will flash the firmware and you're set.

Is there a way to see if this new firmware is already implemented?
I'm getting my 8887 tomorrow (Thanks Adam and PCTorque!) and just want to be sure I don't melt anything!!!!!

The photo's of the BIOS only show the possible boot possiblilites as Drive C, CD, and Floppy. If we have a second hard drive, can we set the BIOS to boot on the second hard drive?

Thanks

daryl,
No, not from what I have seen... it's just single, main drive boot, but of course if it's something people want, maybe it's something that can be worked on =)

I just wanted to say that after I did the keyboard and memory stick driver installs, all the other minor oddities that were happening have quit.

I'll be updating my BIOS tonight.

I have few question.

1) My sager 8886 has 2.8GHz Processor, will this firmware upgrade enable HT on it as well ?

2) Why is it called 888x keyboard firmware upgrade, when it is supposed to fix heat related issues ?

From my understanding only the 3.06 GHz processor is HT ready.
For the other question, the keyboard helps in heat dissipation, the exact means it does that I'm not sure; someone else will have to answer that one.

Done it, no problems. 8887 2.4ghz 512ram.
What about the HT? Would updating my bios help, hurt, or just a wast of time untill I decide to upgrade to the 3.06 HT?

applied this BIOS update and still getting the keyboard freezing about 1 out of 5 startups. I just purchased this laptop and i belive it already had the latest BIOS so i'm still stumped. So far this is the smallest of my glitches, wish rebooting fixed everything =)

I had problems on my 8886 with 2000 SP3. Replaced the i8042prt.sys file (keyboard driver) and seemed to solve the problem. I'm now running XP without any problems.

The link to the file is a dead end now. I have a 8880. Was wondering if anybody out there has the file and can post a link or email it to me?
