Call Apple get the battery replaced.

You can also boot into open firmware by holding down

aption + apple + o + f from a COLD start. Once you are there at the command line type in reset-all and press return. Aside from the SMC reset you can take out the battery and dc the ac - and allow it to rest for an hour to discharge completely.

Resetting the open firmware will preclude needing to zap the PRAM also.

This is definitely a PMU/firmware corruption issue - try the steps listed and let us know.

Intel Macs don't have OpenFirmware...that command won't work.
