Wireless PCMCIA card now causing Windows crash

I have a Compaq Presario X1000 laptop and recently, I reinstalled my OS and then all of a sudden, the Wireless PCMCIA card would not work anymore. After reinstalling the OS, I would try to install the wireless card using the steps provided but during installation of the drivers, it would crash the OS. I downloaded the latest drivers but that did the same... I thought it might be the OS so I installed a different OS but that had the same problem.

I then thought it might be the card so I tried it in my other laptop and it worked fine so now I think it's the motherboard or maybe the pins in the motherboard for the PCMCIA... any ideas if that is the issue?

Thanks.
