You are browsing within the review sections of our forums. Content within these sections reflect consumer opinions of laptops. Our admins take the best and most objective laptop reviews and index them here to create a distinct selection of quality reviews with averaged overall ratings. Many of these reviews have benchmarks attached to them which allows for users to compare their laptop's performance with others, and ultimately enables us to provide a sortable list which at a glance show the fastest laptops amongst a variety of applications (gaming, video editing, web browsing, etc...). Alienware Area-51 m7700 Review

When I first ordered this laptop I was 15 years old. I got it as a present as an encouraging thing to move to Spain from Sweden. And i built the best machine possible for the time...

Now, about one year after the order comes my short review.
First i want to say that the machine looks awesome, and it makes everyone go "aaaaaah I want!"

But since i got it, I've had problems with it!
It has been suffering from overheating, probarbly ever since i got it but its not until now that i've realized it. I spent two hours on the phone with a Tech Support agent to make it work again.

And it did, for two days... now it's even worse then before, the blue light which indicates that you are running on A/C turns of and the FPS drops instatly. The only way to make this stop is to turn the game of and wait, the light then comes on but shuts of easily again.

In 3d mark it's ridiculous, the blue light turns off after 12-12 seconds and it lags all the way through the test... the last 3d mark I ran couldnt finish; the system shut off.

Now im going to have to send the system back to fix it, which will take a while. And as this is my only system im not going to be able to do schoolwork and such for about 2-3 weeks. The dream right now feels like getting the £5000 back in store credit so i could get a desktop (you can always dream!)

The worst thing however was the waiting, an order placed in beginning of June gets delivered in the end of September with a £100 off the price! COME ON!!! upgrade of harddrive, graphics card or ram would've been so much better.

However I would like to thank Jack and Alexander at ALX support for help.

Pros:
very nice design and paintjob
beatiful screen
nice keyboard
excellent tech-support

Cons;
overheating issues
long delivery time
bad customer service
problems with payment
Everything wasnt delievered (still after one year missing the personal sign thingy)

Now this may not be an old traditional review but i wanted to bring this to light and see what the true side (at least about my) mALX

Lakrisal ... Good Luck getting your issues fixed. You definitely should not have experienced Bad customer service, especially with the ALX model - so hopefully you'll find the right folks at Alienware to help you out.

The tech support agent Jack has been really nice, walking me through everything. But, with everything i really feel like throwing it into the pool and just leave it... I asked for credit on the online store and got this answer :

"Dear Mr. ASPEBORG,

I understand your frustrations and anxiousness to have your system in full working order again. As I have advised you in our previous conversation I will be placing this repair on the utmost of priority and ensure it is fully restored and returned to you in the most expedient manner possible.

Mr. Aspeborg I understand that you are frustrated at this point but as the nature of the product is technical there are sometimes instances where components may fail, therefore our warranty ensures that your system comes back for a full inspection and repair and also as a courtesy in a further bid to shorten the repair lead-time will go out on express shipment.

I would advise you after having received your fully repaired system to use it to its full capacity (ie let it run 24/7 if needs be) and if at that point should you experience any technical issues with your system shall we then revisit the possibility of a refund.

With kindest regards,"

Now, it's all nice and everything but I just feel l like shit with this system atm. And believe me, when i get it back I will let it stand 24/7, i'll perform 3d mark 06 tests and ill bring it with me to Euskal #15 and let it stand on for 4 days...

Of course i can understand that Alienware wants to fix a system rather than "giving" me a new one. However, should the computer come back and break down I will not accept anything but credit.

Otherwise it's a beatiful system, it really is. The screen is excellent and the speakers are ok, however i do use Logitech X-230 at home

Between emails like that, posts from various forum members, and the AW visit the NBF conducted earlier this year I think the employees at AW just want you as a customer to give them a chance to fix their equipment. I don't know what your career is, but their's is building high performance computers and sometimes things just don't work out. Be patient and give them the chance to make it right. They've already said if they can't you can have your money back. Put yourself in their shoes... you'd appreciate the chance to troubleshoot and fix it too. Good luck and I hope you get your system back quickly and in perfect condition.
