Acer Extensa 5210 - Problems installing XP Pro

I'm a tech. I was instructed to wipe Vista Basic from a friend's brand new Acer Extensa 5210 and install XP Pro. I told him that his warranty might fall over but he insisted.

So I wiped his hard drive (80gb SATA) and started to install XP Pro. I installed the correct SATA controller drivers from a USB floppy drive (there's no inbuilt floppy drive in the Acer) and all seemed to go well.

But after Windows finished copying files and I hit Enter (following the prompt "Hit Enter to start installing Windows"), the next screen said something like "...can't find any hard drives, hit F3 to abort".

The Acer site where I found the XP drivers is here:
Code:
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/ex_5210.html

I notice that the site provides an XP BIOS (1.02) whereas the native BIOS loaded in the laptop is for Vista, 1.07.

Perhaps the problem might go away if I installed the XP BIOS? Anyone able to advise on this?

Problems installing XP on extensa 5210

I found the solution.
You must update your bios to version 1.08.
After that enter the bios and change the SATA mode (which appeared after updating the bios) to IDE.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately it's a bit late to help with that particular job (August 2007) but I'll make a note of it for future reference. Cheers :-)

Have the same problem with porty. Another problem is while after downloading the new bios which is the v.1.08, i ran the application and out comes an error which says "open on flash.sys fail" on the vista home basic o.s.

Can anyone help me with my dillema?
