eMachines M5405 Disassembly Instructions
It took me an hour using Google and trying every phrase I could think of. I finally found decent disassembly instructions with good photos for the eMachines M5405 notebook. I believe it applies to most M5--- Series:
http://dexplor.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=691 Worked perfectly for me. THANK YOU!, Dan East, whoever you are! ![]() I can now access and remove the "hidden" Internal RAM that Tech Support claimed was "integrated onto the motherboard and not accessible".. Remove the CPU -- not sure, yet, if it can be upgraded from the Sempron 2800+. Still looking for the CMOS Battery -- it has to be there somewhere. Good luck! (isn't the Internet great!!?) Guy |

I found the CMOS battery: Maxell CR1220, 3-volt.
You have to remove the LCD Screen to get to two more small screws under the hinge attachments. Then two more screws to release the cover plate that the Touch Pad is mounted to (the entire remaining half of the main cover). Lift it up gently and the CMOS battery is located to the right of the Touch Pad position. Easy-Peasy, Lemon-Squeezy! I found a good 2GB kit for the RAM at Komusa.com for $148. The battery may be found locally -- I'll search tomorrow. Still no answer from Tech Support concerning the CPU upgrade (if one is possible). Guy |
