I thought this was interesting

http://search.dell.com/results.aspx?...False&~ck=asrc

Also noticed this:
"When playing some games on the Dell XPS™ M1730 portable system, the game information (health level, ammo level, inventory, etc.) is not displayed."

WTF? is that standard?

I'm hoping to see some benchmarks with World of Conflict and Bioshock in the near future from this SLI setup. That or any official news about upgradability to an 8800 or some future card like the previous XPS's had. And hopefully, they'll have some higher education discounts like the m1710.

Thursday 9/27 FULL Release of the 1730...

Just got done chatting with an XPS Rep at Dell and he said he just got an emai from headquarters that the Full launch is 9/27 Then you can fully configure them. Public launch begins with an announcement at Digital Life in NYC.
He said the systems that they offer today are built ready to ship. I am waiting for the 8800 gpu like many of us.

The wait would be much nicer if the 8800 can be swappable with the 8700GT like the 7900/7950 was.

I guess no one knows for sure, but if history has shown us anything, dell usually has one upgrade that will fit in the first gen design lifecycle, can't see any other reason for needing such a high capacity power adaptor, considering the 8700 TDP is only 35w each

True. But hopefully Dell doesn't consider this like they did with the m2010 and does nothing with it. If only Nvidia would make the 8700 with something more than a 128bit bus. Or provided any further news on future high-end mobile GPU's since ATI's been dormant in that sector anyways. Until I see a price config with Bluray/SLI/etc and some benches with Bioshock and World of Conflict, I'm forced to hold off my decision. A real shame because I wanted to get a laptop for this year for a programming class this quarter while prepping for DX10 games in the future.

I'm glad some people are able to get release dates from standard CSR's when no one else seems to know when it is actually getting released... At least here is one honest report lol (of course they apparently don't know the difference between mobile & desktop components- Touting the 880 being out for a long time lol)

3dmark scores will not give you an accurate rendering of RL performance. I want to see benches lol.

I like how they used the XPS 1710 w/7900 instead of the 7950 for a BM comparison
