AlienContact

Is this new?
http://www.alienware.com/sub_pages/aliencontact.aspx

Alienware not only builds systems that deliver rock-solid reliability, we go the extra mile to ensure your peace of mind with AlienContact, a quick and convenient online repair tool.
Advantages of AlienContact

Here's what makes AlienContact so beneficial:
  • Gives an Alienware support representative the ability to access key information about your system, diagnose Eliminates the need to waste valuable time waiting for your system to return from a repair facility.
  • Allows you to supervise every step of the repair process, just as if you were standing next to the Alienware representative, or fix the issue yourself.
  • Lets you determine whether you want to grant Alienware partial or full access to your system.
  • Ability to use diagnostics tool to retrieve vital information about the user's system.
  • Ability to use diagnostics tool to retrieve vital information
How it Works

In the unlikely event that a repair is necessary, AlienContact will have your system up and running again in no time. After contacting Alienware, you will be provided with a code by one of our representatives. They will direct you to a portal where you can input the code and then download and run the AlienContact program. After you decide whether to give partial or full access to your system, the Alienware representative will then retrieve the necessary system information and determine the ideal solution.

Now what other company would do something like this for their customers??

Yes, they just launched it.

Basically, a Technical Support rep will remotely connect to your computer and control the computer via internet. It's just like if the rep was sitting in front of your computer screen.

Tools like these are a tremendous help to diagnose any problems with the system. I have used tools like these before and have saved me a trip or two.

yeah, that is pretty cool, it's much easier for them to diagnose the problem. So what was wrong with your modem?

Just an FYI: logmein.com has a free version of this kind of software. I use it to remotely connect to my servers when I'm away from home.

Can be helpful if you get to work/school and realize you didn't get the file you needed. You can hop on your computer, email it to yourself, and then you'll have it. Saved me in more than a few situations.

Knew that one was coming. Probably why they aren't making a big deal of it. Guess they have an insurance policy now or at least procedures built in for an Alienware tech to probe ones 'hidden' hard drive...

Umm Dell already does this.....and if I remember right and you own a XPS they'll come out to your place and try to fix it.
