Your lappy may have inadvertly sucked a piece of paper into the fan and its stuck where the fan blades are hitting it making alot of noise. This actually happened to a co-worker with a Dell laptop.

I have the same problem with the same computer. Did you ever resolve that fan noise problem? It's driving me insane.

I have the noise on my dv9000 fan too, like a rapid clicking noise, same as you hear if you hold a paper card against the spokes of a bicycle wheel, but much softer. It's the bearing in the fan starting to go. I have contacted HP and asked for a new fan (my lappy is not even 6 months old, fer chrissake) but so far they want to take the lappy away for x days, not good enough. Just give me the fan and some instructions, the way Dell does!
BTW, my fan is completely clean, no dust or trapped pieces of paper. Anyone have disassembly instructions for a dv9000 series?
