Sony SZ webcam wont go into auto mode or color enable

I have a sony sz-110 laptop with the vgp-vcc2 motion eye webcam. Anyway whenever i use it i get told that the color looks really washed out. I didnt pay much attention and just figured it was just the way the webcam was. Well i was at my friends house on her HP laptop and when i got on AIM and used the webcam i was told that i looked 100% better and that the quality was way better on there. I noticed that the HP webcam automatically adjusted to lighting changes and worked pretty good in the darkness. So im wondering what i can do to fix my cam. When i go to the vaio webcam utillity the option to put the brightness control and all the other controls on auto is grayed out. Also the color enable is grayed out and the white balance is grayed out. Is there a way to select these options or improve the quality.
