sector7g is a n00b, but everyone loves n00bs!
In intel matrix storage console I get "no action" when right clicking on any of the icons there.

if i go into device manager and properties on the Policies tab the Optimize for performance is selected and greyed out. You can check Enable write caching on the disk, but under that it says " this device does not allow its write cache setting to be modified.

Is this because the intel program has its settings? if so I do not see an option to enable write caching.

These are the benchmarks for stock performance.

I think you're right. The stock drive may not allow the settings to be adjusted at least not that I've seen before I swapped out my drive for my 2 drive setup.

But as the various benchies show - if you are willing to live with the risk of 1 disk crash taking out everything you have - the performance bump is pretty damn good and plenty noticeable.

Since this is just going to be an "away from the house" gaming / surfing machine - I don't plan on leaving any important docs or files on it.

If you get one of these WD 250 gb drives thats already in here and raid 0 it can you then enable the caching, or do you need to get one of those hitachi drives?

Can you run a HD Tune test to see how the 2x250s run.

Thanks!

I ordered, and hope to have, my T9300 tomorrow. I'll post some pictures, as well as benchmarks this weekend on it.

I'm also sending my two 60 gb Hitachi HD's back and getting a second WD 250 gb Scorpio HD, which I'll install w/the original one, which I'll run as RAID 0. I'll post some pictures of it, as well as some benchmarks of it this weekend also.

I've also got a 1 gb Intel Turbo Memory card coming next week. I'll also post pictures of it. together w/some benchmarks. For $25, I figured what the heck.

Thx.

Just want to help people, and to show how easy it is to upgrade this baby.

The P-6831 FX may not be a Sager or an Alienware, but for the price, it allows a lot of people, who couldn't afford such machines, something comparable, that can be upgraded.

Also the more expensive a system is, the less likely people are to upgrade, or modify it, for fear of effecting the warranty.

Well I guess Spinitch has surpassed me. I didn't know about that one. I guess there's no need for anything further from me.

Sorry.
