I figured I'd make this a one-stop thread for people to discuss what THEY want to see out of the MobileForce Drivers.
After all, the drivers aren't for US. They are for YOU. What do you want to see? A bug you've seen, that's only with the MobileForce version of a driver? Something you'd like to see added? Anything and everything that you'd like to drop our way to help make MobileForce Drivers better than ever, please do so. This thread will serve as a one-stop-shop to see what others have suggested, what OUR feedback is on the suggestions, and what our feedback will be on YOUR suggestion. Nothing is too unimportant to be overlooked. If you want to say it, say it! We can't improve without YOU! So, without further ado, let's get to suggesting!

Right now, it's something with the core drivers themselves. If it was possible, there'd be a MobileForce driver beyond 169.09. It's something NVIDIA did, and I'm not sure if/how it can be reversed. Believe me when I say I'm staying fully on top of it.

This is all just kind of making me wonder what exactly nVidia is doing nowadays.
The drivers have been slow to come out, and haven't really improved much since 94.20 and such came out (in fact they have gotten worse IMHO -- overclocking being part of it), no REAL new video cards since the 8800-series debuted like a year-and-a-half ago, and the "new" 780i motherboards are basically the old 680i with Tri-SLI. WTF ARE they doing??? Sitting on their butts twiddling thumbs while raking in the cash? Probably... Sorry for the off-topic post Tony... It's just bugging the hell out of me.

With drivers, no. It may have taken quite a while for them to do it (I do agree that NVIDIA's drivers are no where near what they used to be) but 169.04 is a very solid driver, and I wholeheartedly prefer and recommend it over 94.20. The 170-Series is starting to shape up, and while the first driver to make it out of the 170-Series (171.16) isn't that awesome, it's still a very early driver, and is pretty close in performance to the later 169-Series drivers. If NVIDIA can fix the overclocking thing with the 170-Series drivers, then we'll be good again. In fact, all of the 169-Series drivers have been pretty solid drivers. It's just the lack of overclocking in drivers post-169.04 that's been the crippling factor.

I don't guess I need to mention the lid close Dell issue. I know you've looked into it.
If you really think about it, it really isn't an issue...Dell just spoiled us with the auto shut-off feature. You can still switch between monitors, you just have to set it up. I like the 169.04s as well. |

Why does my 7900GTX appear as a Quadro under the 169.04 driver?

It would only do that if you have a Quadro BIOS...
Do any other drivers do that?

I think that a good driver would be someone where there are a few crashes possible, in 169.04 it appears to me quite a lot "driver video stopped working and it has been successfully re-enabled".

I am a big fan of the 169.04 driver -- absolutly no problems on my Dell XPS 1730 running on Windows XP Professional. Clearly, MobileForce Drivers are my only solid source of drivers form Windows XP Pro. So I highly recommend that Windows XP drivers remain an equal driver priority.

Try reinstalling the drivers (using the guide stickied in this forum). I've never had that problem, and I haven't heard of others having that problem either. It sounds like it's something specific to you.

I'd imagine Tony had the right Device ID's for the Quadro's, so the only way I can see your card being recognized as a GTX is if you overwrote the Device ID by flashing a GTX BIOS to the card.
Lid Close, maybe some advanced throttling, LCD dimming on idle....Most of those issues are pretty tough to tackle as they are low level (in the driver package itself). That doesn't stop us from trying eh though? I'll try to get back into the driver game soon. |
