M9750 benchmark results

I got my m9750 last night, and you guys were right, it rocks.

Just for reference, here's my setup:
Video/Graphics Card: Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8700M GT - SLI Enabled
Chassis: 17" WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD with Clearview Technology - Stealth Black
Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T7400 2.16GHz 4MB Cache 667MHz FSB
Memory: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz – 2 x 2048MB
Operating System (Office software not included): Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
System Drive: Extreme Performance (RAID 0) - 240GB (120GB x 2) 7,200RPM (8MB Cache)
Optical Drives : 8x Dual Layer CD-RW/DVD±RW Burner w/ LightScribe Technology
Wireless Network Card: Internal Intel® PRO Wireless 3945 a/b/g Mini-Card
Sound Card : High-Definition Audio with surround sound
According to the NVidia control panel, SLI is enabled. Looks like it's running Forceware 156.75. I don't plan to update anything unless I see problems.

I ran PCmark05 and here are my scores:
PCMark: 5551
CPU: 5462
Memory: 4183
Graphics: 5667
HDD: 6115

The graphics score looked kinda low, so I will download 3dmark and run that tonight.

SuperPi:
1M: 24s
32M:24m45s (CPU@76C)

I ran Bioshock at 1920X1200 with everything set to high, no problem. Tonight I'll figure out how to get fps, plus Doom3, Quake4 and Crysis should be arriving today so I'll try to test those out also.

Anyone know what the contrast ratio is on this display? I have had several people at work today comment about how nice it looks.

Have you tried compatability mode with crysis? Do you have XP or Vista?

I just loaded Crysis last night and couldn't get it to run correctly. I had to drop down to 1024X768 and low quality to get framerates in the 20's. Even then, with SLI enabled the bottom half of the screen was wrong, almost inverted. Without SLI, the colors were all wrong and lots of objects were about 95% transparent, still horrible framerates. I did notice that the two GPUs did have different firmware revs.

What is this "compatibility mode" of which you speak? I read that the m8700 drivers were written specially for AW and this chipset and am hesitant to update them...

According to Fraps, I was getting 80fps on TF2 with everything cranked to the max (only goes to 1600x1200 or something like that). Wow, it looks much nicer than it did on my old desktop.

With everything cranked on Bioshock (1920X1200) I was getting 35-40fps.

Tonight I'll try Doom3, but the Quake 4 package had 2 disc 3's and no disc 4, so it's headed back to Amazon.

Well, I'm not sure there's a compatibility mode in Vista, don't have that yet... I was thinking Far Cry, not Crysis... sorry, it was late when I posted.

But if you've got XP, you right click on the executable for the game, and click on properties. There's a compatibility mode where you can set XP to run the game set to the OS that was out when it was developed. You can run Crysis at Win98 for example.

Search the help category for compatibility mode if you have Vista... There might be an XP compatibility mode...?

Crysis is causing issues for a lot of people, as is Vista while gaming. You should contact Alienware and let them know about your issue with the game.

Are you playing in DX10 environment? Might try DX9 if you can set it for that...

If you right click on the crysis.exe in the games folder, on the menu it should say run as directx9 or directx10, if that's what you mean HH.

I am running XP MCE. I'll give compatibility mode a try tonight. If that doesn't work I'll do some investigation into upgrading my forceware drivers.

Here is what I was mentioning earlier regarding drivers (links to a very in-depth, if old, review of the m9750)

Quote:
SLI (and ATI's CrossFire) have often been in a chicken vs. egg race when it comes to supporting new games. Sometimes a custom profile in NVIDIA's drivers is all that's necessary, but frequently additional driver updates are needed in order to support the latest titles. In the case of Windows Vista, GeForce 7000 series cards are still waiting for proper SLI drivers. Needless to say, the GeForce Go 7950 GTX certainly doesn't have a higher priority for NVIDIA's driver team than all of the desktop SLI owners. Alienware currently has a beta Vista driver that's supposed to enable SLI support on some titles, and hopefully a full release driver will be available sometime in the near future. However, it's only a matter of time before the driver gets outdated again; how long and how frequently NVIDIA will continue to update the GeForce Go 7950 GTX SLI drivers is anyone's guess.
I was mistaken and this was about the 7950 and vista, not the 8700 and XP MCE. My machine is currently loaded with Forceware 156.75, and current rev appears to be 169. If I upgrade, will it be difficult to find 156.75 again if I need to go back? Maybe I'll wait until I finish Bioshock....

This is my first foray into bleeding edge gaming, so I'm trying to tread lightly.

PS. My 3dMark05 was 12419.

Don't forget to run the patch v1.1 for Crysis, Robotguy. Crysis still a beast, there is yet a computer that can run it perfectly.

Aha! I'll upgrade my drivers then. From what I could make out, it looks like a pretty cool game. The intro scene where he snipes the tire on the Humvee and runs under it as it flips in the air looks like fun.

The Crysis patch which you can download for free, when installed on a computer with this game, fixes bugs and enhances the game, vcw. Here's the release log:

Fixes:
- Damage dealt to vehicles when shot by LAW has been made consistent
- F12 (screenshot) now works in restricted mode as well
- When player melees during gun raise animation, their gun will not be in a permanently raised position anymore
- Memory leaks and potential crashes

Updates:
- Improved SLI / Crossfire support and performance
- Improved overall rendering performance (DX9 and DX10)
- Enabled VSync functionality in D3D10
- New benchmarking files for ice CPU benchmark

Tweaks:
- Reduced grenade explosion radius in multiplayer
- Clamped water tessellation to avoid cheating in MP
- Reduced LAW splash damage vs. infantry in PowerStruggle mode
- Slowed Rocket projectile speed down in MP slightly

So, if it already runs well on your computer, running this patch will make it run even better

I have a m7700a with 7900GTX. Crysis plays very well. No lag at all. I also play it on my 5700 with a 6800 go on low settings with no lag. I'm using driver 157.68 from laptopvideo2go on both.
