Just have a quick question. I have owned my A8JM for approx. 1.5 years now and it's worked like a charm without a single hiccup. So, just yesterday I tried to turn it on and the screen didn't show anything...the power turned on, hard drive spun up just as it normally did, however nothing was shown on the screen. I am trying to work out what could be the source of the problem. I believe it to be the video card because I have attached the notebook to both a CRT / LCD monitor therefore testing the connection via DVI / standard monitor connector. On all display types (built-in LCD / external LCD / CRT) there was nothing displayed at all. I would've thought that if it was the built-in LCD that was faulty then I would see something on the external sources.

Any thoughts?

(I also treat this notebook like it's my child...I even wash my hands well before every use, never eat food near it etc, so I haven't neglected it or anything)

I've got some tips and tricks for fixing and addressing laptop video problems - try out the following troubleshooting guide and let me know how it goes.

1. Check for a faint image on the screen
Now, you need to check if you can see a faint image on the screen. It is very possible that after the lid is closed, the backlight stays off even when you open the screen again.

2. Check for a solid color
The next thing to check is if the screen is a solid white color. If so, it is very likely a bad connection between the LCD display and the system board.

3. Connect the LCD screen to an external monitor.
If the external video is fine, then you definitely have a problem with the LCD screen or the LCD video cable.

In most cases, if your LCD screen is damaged, it is hard to avoid a trip down to the manufacturer. However, the above are just some general troubleshooting tips that you should always try before calling the manufacturer's support line.

OK, I checked for faint image and could not see anything. I checked in darkness and under strong light.

The screen is completely black

I have done this already to external LCD (DVI) & CRT (standard connection)

So, at this stage I am leaning towards faulty video card. Thanks for your reply!
