NP5792 - Audio Problems
Hi guys,
I'm having sound problems with my NP5792 and I've pretty much tried everything. Here's a copy of the email I sent to websupport@sagernotebook.com: "Hello, I have recently ordered and received a Sager notebook (NP5792). With some trouble I was able to install Windows XP SP2 on it (I ordered it without an OS) and got pretty much everything working, except for the sound. I used the provided CD to install all the drivers, including the sound driver (Realtek High Definition Audio). However, the sound still does not work. I used WinAMP to test the sound, and it gives me an error saying: "Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration." Here are some of the "weird" things I have noticed: 1. When I install the provided sound driver, the progress bar quickly skips to the end. I suspect the installation program is not actually installing the drivers but only the sound control panel. 2. Whereas all the other drivers become grayed out on your company's driver install program, the sound driver selection becomes never grayed out which makes me suspect that the sound driver is not being properly installed. 3. When I uninstalled the sound driver, it gave me an error message saying: "Realtek HD Audio driver Remove Failure!" This leads me to believe the previous suspicion that the driver is not being properly installed. Here are some of the things I have tried: 1. I have tried downloading the drivers listed on your website and on Realtek's website. Both gave me similar results as above. 2. I have formatted my HD and reinstalled Windows thinking something have gone during Windows installation, but the sound still does not work. 3. I have tried downloading the CMedia Azalia sound driver because on the specification for NP5792 on your website it says it uses Azalia Sound System. This did not work because the installation said that the sound card does not exist on the system. 4. I have tried downloading the AC'97 driver from Realtek, but it didn't do anything. I think I've pretty much exhausted every option available to me, and I still haven't been able to me. Unless I'm missing something extremely obvious, this makes me think that I'm having a hardware problem, which would be horribly inconvenient because I have never opened up a laptop before (and it voids the warranty). Please help! Thank you for your time. Sincerely, A Distressed Customer" Does anyone have any idea? Cause I'm running out of them ![]() I'd appreciate any help. |

Not sure if it will help in your case. Windows XP SP3 Realtek Audio fix HERE! In order for Realtek Audio to work with SP3 you must install KB835221 hotfix first. Get it here: http://couponmeister.com/blog/HD_Audio/KB835221.exe
