Hey everyone.

Just picked up my 6831 yesterday. I have on order a T9300 which I should have in 2 days.

I just wanted to give everyone a little experience story here. I am a risk taker so as soon as I got it home I pulled the WUXGA out of my M1710 and prepared for a swap.(going to order a new one from Ebay a little later).

I found out you will need to unscrew the side rails from the GW LCD because this is what keeps it secured inside the housing.

On the Dell LCD I had to drill out the rivets holding the top 2 brackets and also the rivets holding the lower inverter bracket. Once I got those 3 brackets off the LCD frame I was able to take the GW siderails and screwm them onto the Dell LCD. Once the side rails were on, it installed in the 6831 like a charm.

My one problem is that I couldn't swap inverters so does anyone know if that will be a problem? I am using the GW inverter with the Dell LCD. The only difference I noticed is that with the GW LCD I had 3 different stages of brightness and now with the Dell LCD installed, I only have 2.

The lower bracket that was on the Dell LCD I secured to the GW LCD using industrial strength electrical tape. It works but that screen is crap and it only needs to stay this way until I get the one from Ebay.

So, I am only left wondering about the inverter, anyone else have any experience with this? I know the drilling out parts sounds scary but it was actually pretty easy and you only drilled for a few seconds(just enough to pop the rivets).

I just used a very fine screwdriver to remove the bracket and putting a little pressure on it to get it at an angle. I guess drilling is optional.

I also didn't have any problems with the inverter. If I counted correctly I have 8 brightness levels.

Well, if I am using the correct keys FN + F8(?) I have three levels but only 2 of them are actually a different brightness.

Strange...

I think someone else in here did a WUXGA swap with a LG. It might be incompatibility issue with that model LCD and the Gateway inverter that's only giving you those brightness levels.

I did manage to put my stock WXGA screen on a Dell E1705 and it was not able to get to the brightest level. It went from dark, less dark, less dark, back to more dark, so I couldn't get it to go to the brightest level. The stock LCD from the P-6831FX is a Samsung so there definitely was a compatibility issue with that LCD and the Dell's inverter.

As long as you are able to get the brightest level, you should be okay.

Ah hah! Try using the FN key and the keypad up and down arrows... those are the proper brightness adjustments. the other one (F8) is for quick setting highest or lowest brightness.

That should solve that problem.

I tried my LG screen from my E1705 and it worked fine in my 6831, but the gateway screen would not work in my Dell.

No video, seemed the backlight was working.

Been wondering if its a Video card BIOS issue with the newer Gateway screens.

So along with the T8300 I am gonig to get, I will purchase another WUXGA screen for the laptop

1. I wasn't able to get any pictures last night, I will do so as soon as I can. Busy here with class and work.

2. Thank you, seems I was using the wrong key combination.

3. The GW screen does work in my M1710 but it looks like crap. Going to grab a WUXGA off of Ebay I guess and then sell the M1710. It has CC until 2010 sometime.
